Dependence on Krishna gives Peace - Part 1

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.
The following is a humble effort to transcribe one of the nectarean discussion with our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on 27th December 2008 in Sri Sri Radha Neel Madhav dham, Rajkot. Now we shall hear from Maharaj.
Devotee: Maharaj, in devotional service, we noticed that very advanced devotees are very strong and they listen to problems that occur and they can tolerate and manage to hold on to a very significant burden that is put upon them. Where do they derive that strength to remain so rock solid and how do they develop that? Because there are a lot of devotees who try, but when the difficulties come, it is hard for us to tolerate. And ofcourse there are devotees whom we seek out to and obtain their guidance and support, give us that one-pointed faith to depend upon the Names in the difficulties.
Maharaj: The child, you know small child, he has held the finger of his father, so that he can cross the busiest road very easily. Because the child knows that his father has sufficient (strength) and is able to protect him and he puts full faith in his father. Those who have full faith in His shelter, they can fight in any situation. Our faith is weak. And our faith is weak really, very weak. Even now we think that, “because I am having a job, I have a nice income, that’s why I am happy.” Those who don’t have income (are also happy), ants also don’t have any space. The software engineers maybe don’t have pants also. (Laughter) The only difference is that they (ants) don’t have bags and we have bags. They don’t have bags that’s why they (ants) are happy. We have bags therefore we are unhappy. (due to accumulating tendency) It is very difficult to survive in this situation. It is very difficult, because the sastras advice us one way and we have to behave in the other way. We are forced many times. How to eat tomorrow when we don’t have rice? It is very easy not to collect, but the way the human class is behaving, they are destroying the spiritual freedom. That’s why people are perplexed. They don’t want really.
Formerly these things were in plenty, nobody really cared. Maybe they had one week's stock and they were satisfied. Now we don’t know whether after one week, if they were able to get it or not. - Gas and so many things we are depending on, formerly the dependence was nil. I remember the time when there was no electricity, so we had to depend upon the kerosene only. That’s it, nothing else. For fuel, we never depended upon anybody. The coal was available, plenty of coal and coal was very costly so we were using wood. I remember the whole cart full of wood will be moved into the village and buy. So, we bargain then. In two rupees the whole cart will be empty without fail. And one cart will go for six rupees. It was very easy, life was very easy.
Under the name of the advancement and Kali Yuga force, life is being difficult now. So then what happens, then unknowingly, our life is depending on so many other things. So, we lose faith in our scriptures. So, don’t lose faith, these values don’t change. But according to time and circumstance we have to apply it. I many times tell that when Prabhupada was here, some may be child. He would have put on nice kurta. So Prabhupada would say that, “hey always we should put on this kurta.” So, we catch the conversation that Prabhupada said, “this kurta”. Now he is forty-five years of age, that kurta cannot be worn, but he said, “No Prabhupada said wear this kurta.” In that, we go wrong. “You have to put on kurta”, that is Prabhupada’s instruction. But not this kurta. According to time and circumstance, we have to change here and there and fit into it. That is our duty. The sane people who are with the scriptures, they find out some changes here and there. That is how we should behave.
Krishna willing we can hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.
