Great news everyone, our Kickstarter fundraising project for
Learnapalooza Chicago has gone live!

Now, time to tell the world!

Here are some handy-dandy tips to use to help us spread the word:

1: Email and instant message your friends, family, or anyone else
that
might want to support you. (We have appeal letter text at the bottom
of this email).
2. Write about it on your personal blog or Tumblr.
3. Hit the social networks. Link to your project from Facebook,
Twitter, MySpace, or wherever your friends are.
4. Contact other relevant blogs, discussion forums, or online
communities to help get the word out.
5. Ask your friends or fans to help you spread the word!
6. Rinse & repeat.

Appeal letter text:

Dear ,

I’m writing to tell you about an amazing project that I’m working on
this summer. I’m part of a group organizing Chicago’s first ever
Learnapalooza. Learnapalooza Chicago will be a neighborhood festival
centered around a skills exchange. In other words, we are creating
an
opportunity for community members to share their passions and skills,
and providing a venue for the curious or community-minded to learn.
We already have a group of venues, businesses, and community
locations
donating space. There is also a growing group of volunteer teachers
offering classes covering yoga, cooking, languages, juggling, and
computer skills.

I'm sure right about now you are wondering, "How do I get involved in
this project? What can I do to make it a success?" Well, organizing a
successful (free!) festival requires funding. Fortunately,
Learnapalooza Chicago was invited to raise contributions on
Kickstarter! For those of you who aren't familiar, Kickstarter is a
funding platform for creative projects. The premise is simple: set a
financial goal, tell the world about your project, and get people to
donate. The catch? It's all or nothing. If we don't meet our
financial goal, you don't have to pay anything, but, sadly, we don't
get anything either. This is our opportunity to reach out to people
like you and ask you to help us make this festival a reality. So
please, check it out (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1643033595/
learnapalooza-chicago), choose whatever giving level you can, get
some
cool Learnapalooza Chicago gear for your donation, which will also
help us spread the word.

Why does a free community learning festival need money? Well, the
classes are free, the spaces are free, and the teachers are
volunteers
but putting on a festival still has its costs: volunteer support,
advertising, and t-shirts, signage, decorations, permits, workshop
supplies for participants, and event maps.

Also (and perhaps most importantly), come out on June 19th and enjoy
the festival. Have something you want to teach? Let us know. Have
something you want to learn? Join us for a workshop.
