Subject: Udall Scholarship Announcement!

UDALL SCHOLARSHIP
(www.udall.gov)

CAMPUS DEADLINE: 29 DECEMBER 2009

Do you have a demonstrated commitment to the environment? Do you have an interest in pursuing a career related to the environment? If so, the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation are interested in you!

The Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation is seeking future leaders across the wide spectrum of environmental fields and environmental activism.

Because contributions to the environment can be made in many different ways, the Udall Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to students in a broad range of academic majors and career interests. Recent Udall Scholars have majored in the sciences, engineering, government & law, religion, anthropology & sociology, economics & business, English, foreign languages, international affairs, the arts/music, mathematics, etc. They have had career interests that include public policy, environmental sciences/engineering, landscape architecture, urban planning, the health professions, and the like. In other words, regardless of your major or minor, you may be a strong candidate for an Udall Undergraduate Scholarship!

Eligibility:
• An interest in & commitment to the environment
• 3.0 or above GPA
• Be a US citizen, national, or permanent resident alien (green card holder)

Udall Scholars:
• Receive up to $5,000 for tuition, room & board, or other educational expenses;
• Attend a 4-day August “Orientation” in Tucson, AZ to meet with other Scholars, elected officials, and environmental leaders; and
• Have access to a network of environmental policy professionals.

Interested? You should be! The August Orientation and network access is, by all accounts, phenomenal. Just ask Mickey Adelman ’10, W. Ben Towne ’09 (w...@cu.cmu.edu), Gabriella Englehart ’05 (g...@andrew.cmu.edu) or Hart Feuer ’05 (hfe...@gmail.com). Last year, Jennifer Bell ’11 and Ben Swartout 0’11 were among the Honorable Mention recipients of the Udall Scholarship. Another just missed being named to the Honorable Mention list.

So, what are you waiting for? Lafayette will nominate up to six (6) candidates for this award. To be considered, you will need to submit an application for the College’s Fellowship Selection Committee review by 29th December 2009.
