This month’s lean and environment workgroup will focus on specific
tools and techniques used to combine lean and environment. The free
Webinar will be held Tue, March 20, at 2:00 EST (details below).
Kurt Middelkoop, of the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Centers will
give specific tools and techniques used to incorporate the three E’s
of Energy Economy and Environment in your value stream to reduce
operating costs and environmental footprint. You will be given a
tools to help you walk your floor and identify new wastes that you
might not have noticed with standard lean methodology. These simple
methods will help make your value stream map a useful visual tool that
can help you to prepare an effective action plan that focuses on
priorities.

Kurt Middelkoop has over 25 years of experience in various
manufacturing positions and small business ownership and operations.
Kurt’s efforts include work with municipalities, universities, and
manufactures to implement and audit the ISO 14001 standard for
Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Some of his customers
include: Ford Motor Division, Toyota North America, Wyeth
Pharmaceuticals, General Dynamics, New Belgium Brewery, Whirlpool,
Motorola, Pilgrim’s Pride Chicken, Sky Chefs, Atlas Copco Drilling
Solutions, Hitachi, City of Lubbock, City of Fort Worth, City of
Coppell, City of Carrolton, SMU, Northwood University and the Dallas
Cowboys.
Kurt has working relationships with national and state organizations
including the North American Commission on Environmental Cooperation.
He has partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to provide training
and on-site assistance for delivering “Lean and Clean” integrated
workshops and EMS to both municipalities and manufactures. He has
delivered the Green Suppliers Network (GSN), a partnership with the
EPA, NIST MEP, and OEMs process improvement program for multiple
companies in the US. He has also provided training on “Lean,
Environmental and Sustainability” to organizations in Canada, Mexico,
Brazil and Ireland.
ABOUT THE LEAN AND ENVIRONMENT WORKGROUP
The lean and environment workgroup is a partnership between the
National Pollution Prevention Roundtable (P2.org), the Pollution
Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx), the Zero Waste Network
(ZeroWasteNetwork.org), and the Pacific Northwest Pollution
Prevention
Resource Center (PPRC.org). Its purpose is to demonstrate the
profitability of incorporating sustainable business practices into
operations. Anyone who is interested in being part of the group
