Are tif files not supported in Leaflet? What is the best way to do this? I'm not an experienced mapping guy, and I just learned about WMS server. Am I going to have to serve them using a WMS server? Do you guys know any lightweight standalone wms server?
Thanks in advance,
David

The problem is that web browsers don't support tif format, except Safari as I remember... Not a Leaflet's fault.

If you have a large tif file that, when converted to .jpg or .png, is still too large to load in the browser (>1MB), you can cut the image into tiles and use L.TileLayer: http://leafletjs.com/reference.html#tilelayer. MapTiler is a good, free, standalone program that will cut a tif into tiles- http://www.maptiler.org/. Note that MapTiler uses the TMS format, so you will have to set tms:true in your L.TileLayer options.
Good luck and let me know if you need additional help!
