The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University invites
applications
from qualified candidates for the position of Chair of Visualization
at
the tenured full professor level to begin on or about September 1,
2007.
This interdisciplinary unit is comprised of diverse faculty members
from
the departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban
Planning, and Construction Science. Current strengths include an
energetic and collegial faculty, administrative support for further
innovation and growth, and excellent facilities. The mission of this
faculty is to advance the art, science and technology of visualization
and to support the highly successful and innovative M.S. in
Visualization Sciences. For over 15 years this academic program has
produced highly successful graduates with strong visual problem
solving

The Chair will be responsible for overall unit administration and will
report directly to the Dean of the College. The successful candidate
will be expected to further the educational and research mission of
this
faculty, foster the recruitment of high quality students, and promote
the unit's vision both inside and outside the university. This
position
is a twelve month appointment.
Candidates must have a terminal degree (e.g. MFA, Ph.D.) in one or
more
of the areas of computer science, computer graphics, visual art,
time-based media, architectural visualization, construction
visualization, geographical information systems, urban visualization,
data visualization, simulation, graphic communication, animation,
visual
perception, history of visualization, or other closely aligned areas.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership
capabilities,
a commitment to sustaining and expanding the research and teaching
environment, a distinguished record of interdisciplinary scholarship
and
teaching, strong administrative and interpersonal abilities, a
participatory management style, and an established record of
university
and/or professional service. A record of ongoing funded research is
highly desirable.
A proposal is currently being developed to expand this unit into a
Department of Visualization with approximately 10 full-time faculty, 6
jointly appointed or affiliated faculty and several adjunct faculty.
Should this proposal be approved, the successful candidate would
become
the founding Head of the new department and additional junior faculty
positions would likely become available for the successful candidate
to
further grow the department.
