Welcome to Agile Austin's monthly newsletter.  In it, we'll publicize what's new at Agile Austin, upcoming events, blog entries from the local community and anything you need to know about Agile Austin.

What's New At Agile Austin

Board meeting.  For those who were unable to attend our July board meeting and are interested in what we talked about, you can see the notes here.

Meetings

Aug 1 (noon - 1:00 pm) Agile Leaders SIG - Retrospective Exercises
Agile Velocity, 8140 N. Mopac Expressway, Building IV, Suite 140, Austin, TX 78759

Building on April's presentation that focused on the structure and 'why' of the retrospective, we will delve into specific exercises that you can use in and to enhance your Teams' retrospectives. Attendees will leave with a printed set of instructions for the exercises to refer to and use.

As the previous presentation was standing-room only, you may wish to consider arriving pre-punctually to ensure easy ensconcement and/or convenient comestible availability.

Speaker: Earl Everett

To Register (and for more info): http://www.eventbrite.com/event/12320987405

Aug 5 (6:00 - 9:00 pm) Monthly Meeting - The Black Art of Valuing Stories Demystified
BancVue, 4516 Seton Center Pkwy, Suite 300, Austin, TX 78759

Product Owners and Business Analysts struggle mightily with valuing user stories. It isn't like you can put a dollar figure to each story. Or can you? This presentation/workshop explores a number of techniques for valuing stories, who performs the valuation, when valuation takes place, and how to propagate valuation during story splitting.

This is an encore workshop of one of the higher attendee rated presentations from 2014 Keep Austin Agile Conference.

Speaker: Scott Killen

To Register (and for more info): http://www.eventbrite.com/event/12190918365

Xenia is the ancient Greek concept of hospitality, the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home and/or associates of the person bestowing guest-friendship.

This project's goal is to organize a community hack-a-thon that will involve college students and local professionals collaborating on real-world projects for non-profit organizations.

Aug 21 (11:30 - 1:00 pm) Executive Luncheon - Agile Executives Luncheon – Q3 2014
North by Northwest, 10010 North Capital Of Texas Highway, Austin, TX 78759

You are cordially invited to attend the quarterly Agile Austin luncheon of practicing agile executives. This luncheon is convened to help senior leaders with agile software development teams of a dozen or more solve practical problems.

Guests should consider themselves “executives”, which generally means that they are a VP, CxO, or a Director or similar in a larger organization.

Registration will be closed at 10pm on the Sunday before the event or at 40 people, whichever comes first. Please respect that, if you RSVP and do not attend, you may deny a seat to another and force us to incur unnecessary expense.

Please direct questions to pres...@agileaustin.org in advance of the event. Also, please use this address to let us know of any special dietary needs.

Registration information will be sent to the Agile Austin notify distribution list as it becomes available.

Aug 28 (6:30 - 8:30 pm) Board Meeting - August Meeting
Agile Velocity, 8140 N. Mopac Expressway, Building IV, Suite 140, Austin, TX 78759

Join the board in discussing how things are going with Agile Austin.

See here for the current agenda / notes (it will be updated during the meeting). To add to it, send an email to bo...@agileaustin.org.

The first thing we do in board meetings is ask for additional topics / prioritize the topics at hand. As a result, the agenda will change. The best way to encourage discussion of a particular topic is to attend.

More information will be sent to the Agile Austin notify distribution list as it becomes available.

That's it for this month (check the web site for late breaking news).  As always, we welcome your feedback.  How can we help you solve the problems you face in becoming more agile?

I’ll update the Book Club entry in the usual way; however, please add this to the Book Club entry anyway:

We’ll be wrapping up Stephen Bungay's The Art of Action at the August 7 session; review candidates for the next book at this link and comment on what you’d  like to read next.

Thanks,
Ned
