Hey Everyone,
Here is the first proposal going to our council representatives. All councils get to vote on new council members joining, and then the final Board decision is made. Voting is optional for project representatives, but we certainly encourage as many people to be involved in all decision making opportunities to ensure we get the maximum potential of making the correct decision. Only the final Board Vote is mandatory for those on the Board.
To comment or vote simply "reply all" to this email. You can vote a "Yes, No, or Abstain", or to use our official voting method, give a number from 0-9. 1-3=No, 4-6=Abstain, 7-9=Yes
When voting on Proposals for Sponsored Projects, you must vote based on the legal rational for this project to be sponsored, as a 501c3 non-profit in this instance. You can not vote based on whether you personally like the project or if it potentially conflicts with your own, that would be a conflict of interest, as we support all community programs as long as they are legal and fit within the framework of our Community Mission. Look out for any potential legal issues that could arise that may have not been mentioned. This particular proposal is focused on education, so it should be pretty easy to approve for non-profit charity status, but some proposals can be more complicated and have more extensive legal issues. The official proposal is bellow.
Thanks for voting.

Official Proposal from IRIS: Should we approve fiscal sponsorship for IRIS as a 501c3 non-profit, with paid staff?
Iris: Sex Education for Sonoma County, is a team of educators who seek to provide comprehensive sex education to all people regardless of their socioeconomic position. Our curriculum promotes dialogues around sexuality, gender, and sex culture; techniques for communication and consent; use of accurate anatomic information; and, correct use of contraception and abortion. We seek to provide students with access to local resources as well as a safe environment to ask questions and explore information necessary to fully understanding sexuality.
Bianca Licata and Dante Carlozzi will be co-operating Iris as directors, curriculum developers, and instructors. Bianca Licata is a credentialed high school teacher with a B.A. in English from University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.A. in teaching from University of San Francisco, with extensive experience as a writer, performing artist, and activist. Dante Carlozzi is a recent magna cumme laude graduate of University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Sociology, with focuses on sex, gender, and media studies in both disciplines.
Iris plans to give 15% total income cash flow/revenue to Community Life Network. Currently we are fundraising through GoFundMe, and are hoping to write grants in the near future with the goal of making Iris available to students at a low to no cost. We hope to raise enough money to provide low income students with scholarships, and make available a sliding scale tuition for all others.
Bianca Licata taught sex education to fifth graders at Albert F. Biella Elementary during her student teaching, and lead a two day workshop for teens this past academic year. Dante Carlozzi has been actively involved in the arts community, and has dedicated his academic career to the critical analysis of Western sex culture. Through their involvement with the Santa Rosa based variety show North Bay Cabaret, Licata and Carlozzi met and decided to found Iris in response to Sonoma County’s lack of consistent, comprehensive sex education.
Thank you for your consideration.
