Gossip. It’s the number one cause of lack of trust in the
workplace, according to research conducted by The Reina Trust
Building Institute.

At work, and in our professional associations, it seems easier for
most people to criticize or judge someone who is not present
instead of dealing directly with whatever problem exists.

Great leaders know two things about gossip. First, whatever you say
almost always gets back to the person you speak about. And second,
it’s a waste of productive time.

Think . . . and act . . . like a leader!

Let us be examples of leaders who are trustworthy, caring, courageous
and fair.

Even I am not in for the Gossip and avoids it.

But let me invite your attention to something I read in the new issue of OUTLOOK.

In the magazine, one Political Psychologist opined: "Gossip is a form of self expression......(otherwise) frowned upon in authoritarian regimes. That is why it flourished during the Emergency, in Pakistan under Zia's rule and now in Singapore. In Nehru's time there was a kind of self-imposed censorship-people gossiped, didn't dare to publish it. It gives a human touch to new but, at that time, it was seen as too trivial" 

Another Psychologist wrote, "Unlike rumor, gossip is a feel-good activity, Besides being the common gamesmanship of cocktail parties, it's a harmless, healthy trend, helping to discharge feelings of hostility, and envy, even as it subverts those in authority. ............ That's why it's associated more with women because telling tales is regarded as 'feminine' "

Hello Nibras,

Thanks for drawing my attention towards different opinion of gossips.

Well it is rightly said that gossips are a form of self-expressions. Imagine if we are among our particular leadcap discussion then one would gossip about his/her experiences and he/she would express himself/herself but if we are between people then it is but natural that it is just a waste of time. So it states that saying right: "It is better to have a wise enemy that a dull friend".

In fact: Gossip is thought by many to "empower one person while disempowering another" (Hafen)

Dissuss further if you have any thing other in this subject "Gossip". And I request all the other persons who read the post to leave a comment at least.

Up to some extent, gossip also helps bring people together, which helps in bonding as a team. Too much of it is sure a waste of time.

well, i have mixed opinion on gossips..it simply depends how
productive, or on what topic are we gossiping around..(nature of
gossip)
gossips are no doubt waste of time... but it is a gateway to
interaction and knowing different point of view. get to know the
character of the person. as often people get drifted when they are
given opportunity to speak their mind..
