When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be
no doubt. But that is not what great ships are built for.
Clarissa Pinkola Estes

What risks have you taken lately?

What new adventures have you experienced?

What new technology are you learning?

How are you preparing your team for the future?

Who will your customers be in 5 years? Are you getting ready for
them now?

You may have worked hard and been creative to achieve your past
successes. You probably took a lot of risks to prove your worth.
You might even have had a passion for learning new things so you
could stand out in the crowd.

But if you are like many people, once you feel secure in your
current position you go into maintenance mode. You become less
likely to take risks. You begin to believe you are an expert with
the knowledge you need to succeed. You become less open to new
ideas and less disciplined about keeping up with the latest trends.

But leaders who are stagnant are (at best) administrators, not
leaders. Leaders who are stagnant - and who encourage the status
quo in the groups they are leading - are like great ships sitting
in the dock.

Leaders know the importance of learning new things, reaching
for higher goals and taking their teams on new adventures.

Great leaders are like great ships, out in the rough seas and
loving every minute of the danger, excitement and discovery!

Think . . . and act . . . like a leader!
