I am attaching a list of good marathi books which should be read by children and adults alike. These are inspiring and interesting titles to start with. Most of these authors have already been introduced through our school texts. Also one can check a treasure of books and toys in hindi , marathi and english  on
HAPPY vacations...lets enjoy the summer !!

Thanks a ton Vaibhavi...

Would request all our volunteers to find out if some of these books can be purchased and most importantly ---  We need to use them... Just dumping these books in our cupboard is of no use,....

Sorry to say- but much of the interesting stuff is still left unchecked & unused in our cupboard....   I was compelled to tell the donors NOT to give any story books to us now as we already have enough collection to be covered...

I suggest, may be some of us - Mostly teaching volunteers - spare some time in going through this collection when you visit our center next time... identify the book (s) that you feel, you would be able to cover better with our kids... keep that/those book (s) with you... study at home as t how you will make that story/activity more interesting may be inculcating some values/ academic concepts /games within that story activity/itself.....

Then see, how things will work wonders --

Earnestly request all the teachers to please come prepared with loads of resources that I have shared with all of you...  and the one that we have with us in our center.....

Rupesh

If I may suggest something.... though i m not actively involved in any of LEAD activities.

Now that it is vacation time, can there not be reading sessions of those story books. Let the elder kids take turns to read out stories. Our LEAD kids have already been exposed to theater and puppets. Then may be enact the story through younger kids using puppets and acting. This can keep the kids busy and also they practice reading.
Also one can go through
http://prathambooks.org/home.htm and go through their blog. There are lots of interesting activities around books.

Also once interest is built, children can run a library with the help of volunteers who can teach them to classify and organise the lending process. If there is responsibility and ownership towards the books, I am sure children will be more than happy to do that.

Another idea is to use this resource for fundraising. This library thing can be extended to the neighbourhood kids who can avail the facility after a payment like any other library. Only thing is that the proceeds will help another child pursue education. This may sound a bit far fetched, at this time, but we may think about it.

Hope we get to hear more stories on opening of book cupboards and hunting of treasure inside.
