Good Morning All:

KIPP is so excited to have us.  Please see the feedback below.  I left Sara a message confirming that we will be providing time to introduce ourselves at the beginning.  As for the suggestion of having a practice opportunity, perhaps we can build that in.  I will try to put a quick call on for us to chat tomorrow.  Hope that’s ok.

Hi Veronica & team,

Thanks so much for sending the slides my way!  I cannot tell you how much we are looking forward to your session next week.  The 11th grade team is excited about this amazing growth opportunity for our students.  I can’t thank you enough for taking the time and investing the energy in our students’ development.

A few questions/ thoughts about the presentation:

-          We had talked about having an introduction section where each of the presenters talks about their background/ career.  Is this still in the plans? Students will benefit from being able to connect with each of you.

-          In principle, I would try to think of breaking the hour presentation into 3-4 chunks.  Students will have a difficult time sustaining attention and taking notes for longer than 15-20 minutes.  A way to remedy this is to build in something for them to do and/or a place for them to answer questions.

o    Some suggestions for places you could build this in:

§  At the beginning: Eliciting what they already know about a resume.

§  After the 3 Bullet Resume Section (btw…I love this!  I’ve never heard it explained that way before.  Very concrete!):  Having students practice for one of their own experiences- job, internship, extracurricular activity

§  During the interview session:  Asking students to come up and model great interview skills/ poor interview skills

-          Accordingly, I like the application portion you have built in after the resume bullet points.  This is a great example of the type of student interaction that will keep them engaged.

-          I noticed that the presentation gives very concrete items to put in a resume. Will you be able to hand out a full sample resume to students?  I think it will help them see the whole thing put together.

-          Would you like me to print anything for the day of the presentation for students?  (Slides, handouts, sample interview questions, etc..)  If so, please just let me know which documents.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything else I can do to support Tuesday’s session.

Students will complete the Pre-surveys on Friday morning and I’ll scan and email your way!

Thanks so much,

Sara

Sara:

I left you a voicemail message.  We are equally excited to work with you and your students.  We had planned to spend a few minutes in the beginning of the session to introduce ourselves. This should take only 7-10 minutes.  We only planned to talk for approximately 60 minutes with 30 minutes for Q&A.  Per your request, we will collaborate to insert a mock practice session to break-up the presentation and create more interaction with the student.  We will also bring a sample resume for the student to review.  My team and I are planning to arrive at 8:30am on Tuesday, 3/5.  Please let me know if you have any additional concerns.
