Some excellent links here – including some on Universal Basic Income and others on the sharing economy

These articles emphasise the importance of checking the details during this transitional phase of rebalancing the economic and social order – otherwise we could wind up reinforcing the status quo rather than enhancing people power.

And this isn’t just about social justice, important thought this undoubtedly is; no, ultimately, it’s about building the capacity of ‘people movements’ to take effective action to address the issues around climate change.

Achieving the best possible outcome for present and future generations, and for all planet Earth’s inhabitants could be considered the pinnacle of Social Justice.

So, getting things right at the outset matters!

Stories From the Field

Not Just Bakers:
Arizmendi Bakery just hit 20 years of operating. The worker-owned cooperative has grown from one lone shop to six locations across the Bay Area. Worker-owner Amy Happ lays out the benefits of co-ops: "Before the financial collapse people said things like, 'Oh. You're just a baker.' But when we're going through a recession, people are amazed by our stability."

#Divest: NoDAPL was a major moment for the divestment movement having spurred countless individuals and even some banks to pull their money from projects funding the pipeline. So what does the divestment movement need now? Keep organizing.

Waste Ban: In 2014, Massachusetts became the first state to enact a commercial organic waste ban which, according to a new report, has generated $175 million in economic activity as well as 900 jobs.

Resource: Ungovernable 2017

A plan to be #ungovernable in 2017 sets out ways to both build and fight: build though community owned food and energy networks, common spaces, and People’s Assemblies.
