Just as SeniorNet identified a
significant demographic who were missing out on the benefits of IT, we
have identified advancements in: project management, resource mapping,
community engagement and creative funding that we want to get into the hands of people who understand the value of living in connected progressive communities.
Our goal is to bridge the knowledge gap between what people could be
using to make their communities better and what they actually are using,
and to train them up quickly and effectively.
So we have developed
an intensive, experiential, fun weekend learning experience - The
Community Game to bring together up to 100 people at a time to upskill
in these tools and systems. A training course for the smart communities
of the 21st Century.
By bringing together a large group from
different ages and sectors for a weekend, we create a phenomenon of real
community within the event while exposing the talents, skills and
capacity to make things happen that any community latently has. Much of
the learning is achieved through application to real projects that
participants choose.
The secret of bringing such a group together is
our pitch to the A-Z of groups & associations, schools (and some
businesses) within a community. By default most groups (even sports and
recreation) have some collective motivation that can possibly be engaged
to the wider good.
With The Game we aim to get representatives from
ALL the community rather than with just say ‘green’ initiatives or
things like Transition Towns (of which I am both fond) where inevitably
80% of a community find conceptual reasons why not to engage
Our underlying goal is to help enable rapid total transformation of our society to a sustainable thriving culture for everyone.
