I had a little extra time tonight so I thought I'd try some things out in Photoshop with the LDS Music App interface for a future release. I think it's important to give the app a little more character. I don't know much about actually implementing a GUI, though. What do you all think?

Oops, I'm not sure if the attached image came through. I'll attach it again.

Shiny, I like the idea. I'm biased toward pretty pictures, though!

I like it but I am a little partial to the side tab look. Instead of making "Children's Songbook" and "Other" go all the way across, stop them at the same spot as "Hymns". I do really like the change though!

I don't want to throw water on anyone's fire here, but this sort of layout doesn't really seem to fit with Apple's "iOS Human Interface Guidelines" (specifically the "Brand Appropriately" section at http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/UEBestPractices/UEBestPractices.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH20-SW13 ).

I think that, in general, the designers of the current LDS Music app have done a good job of incorporating the iOS guidelines while giving the app its own unique look-and-feel.  To me, the app icon that has the gold music note on the green background is enough to bring in the "LDS Hymnbook" brand, without taking it too far.

This looks pretty and playful. The app as it stands does look blah right now and could do with some lipstick.

I wonder if the lipstick should go more on the chrome though.

There are still a lot of features that we haven't had time to implement in the app yet. Once many of those features are in I'd like to have some designers take a good hard look at the app and see how we can improve the aesthetic appearance of the app while staying true to the purpose of the app and the HIG that Curtis mentioned.

The question on many peoples' mind is probably, "when we those features get implemented?" Yeah. I wonder that too. We are severely understaffed.

Well, I wish I could help but I am a real novice in programming.
