I have looked around and found the scriptures in palm eReader, lit (MS
Reader, iSilo, Plucker and a host of other formats but not in ePub, the
new open eBook standard.

I have a Sony Reader 505 so I first tried to convert from lit to lrf
using Caliber.

However, I think it would be much better to have an open format so I
then made another attempt using Convertlit then put the resulting
directory through oeb2epub (a python script described here:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11784&highlight=convert+lit+epub)
with out success. The epub file gets created however, when opened, it
shows a blank page in Adobe Digital Editions and on the Sony Reader.
The first page actually shows up in FBReader but you cant navigate.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to do similar? My next attempt will
probably be from HTML to epub and see if I can get that to work.

That's interesting. I'll have to take a look at the XML versions.
There are already tools to go from HTML to ePub while with XML, I'd have
to write a tool to generate HTML, the XML and other files from the
original XML. So, I'm wondering what would be the best path to take.

at least by starting from the XML, I'd have complete control over how
the final epub book is laid out. But most of the needed layout work
with books, chapters, etc. has already been done with the HTML sources
out there.
