Blessed Feast Day of the Holy Vietnamese Martyrs to you and yours!
Earlier today, Pope Leo XIV celebrated the Holy Mass of the Jubilee of the Poor. In his
homily,
Our Holy Father proclaimed the words of Jesus in Rev 3:9, “Dilexi te, I have loved you.” Drawing on God's creative act, the Pope stressed the universal destination of goods: the earth's fruits and human labor belong to all, making aid to the poor a
matter of justice before charity. Quoting St. Augustine, he noted, “You give bread to a hungry person; but it would be better if none were hungry, so that you would have no need to give it away. You clothe the naked but would that all were clothed and that
there be no need for supply this lack.”
As the Church observes the Ninth World Day of the Poor, we are reminded by our Holy Father, in his
Angelus
message, of our call to accompany those in need and to renew our commitment to works of justice and charity. Pope Leo XIV called us to reflect on the
Apostolic
Exhortation Dilexi
Te, “I have loved you.” This is the message from the Holy Father to all Christians on love of the poor. The document reflects on Christ’s love and the Poor. It is a passionate call to all Christians to
recognize and serve Christ in the poor and suffering, emphasizing the inseparable link between faith and love for the marginalized. In the document, Pope Leo also broadens the understanding of poverty beyond material need to include social marginalization,
lack of voice, moral and spiritual poverty, and the vulnerability of those without rights or freedom (such as migrants, victims of violence, and the sick). The Holy Father emphasizes the dignity of every human and asks all of us to embody Chirt’s love and
solidarity with the poor through both individual charitable action (almsgiving) and the transformation of unjust social structures in a world of growing inequalities.
In respond to the ongoing calls to action by our Holy Father, the National Executive Committee invites you to participate in this year's Facebook Giving Tuesday Campaign for Charity and the VEYM National Day of Apostolic Works campaign. Please see the attached
memorandum for details. We also humbly ask the League of Chapter Presidents and all Chapter Presidents to kindly share these initiatives with your chapters and encourage the charitable spirit and participation. Echoing our Holy Father’s words, “Through your
work, your efforts to change unjust social structures or your simple, heartfelt gesture of closeness and support, the poor will come to realize that Jesus’ words are addressed personally to each of them: ‘I have loved you’” (Rev 3:9). Thank you so
much for your love, prayers, and support! May the God bless you and your apostolic work!
May your week be filled with His blessings of charity, peace, and joy!
