Dearest VEYM family,

Happy Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi to you and your loved ones! Like many saints before and after him, Saint Francis of Assisi had a great devotion and love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. He regarded her as his Mother, Advocate, Queen, and Lady. According to his biographer, Thomas of Celano, "He embraced the Mother of Jesus with inexpressible love, since she made the Lord of Majesty a brother to us. He honoured her with his own Praises, poured out prayers to her, and offered her his love in a way that no human tongue can express. But what gives us greatest joy is that he appointed her the Advocate of the Order and placed under her wings the sons he left behind, that she might protect and cherish them to the end." Saint Francis wrote a prayer of praise to his "Lady of Poverty" as follows:

Hail, holy Lady, most holy Queen,

Mary, Mother of God, ever Virgin.
You were chosen by the Most High Father in heaven,
consecrated by Him, with His most Holy Beloved Son
and the Holy Spirit, the Comforter.

On you descended and still remains all the fullness of grace and every good.
Hail, His Palace.
Hail His Tabernacle.
Hail His Robe.
Hail His Handmaid.
Hail, His Mother.
and Hail, all holy Virtues, who, by grace and inspiration of the Holy Spirit,
are poured into the hearts of the faithful
so that from their faithless state,
they may be made faithful servants of God through you. Amen.

Let us follow our saintly brother's example and gather to praise God with Mother Mary through our VEYM Virtual Rosary devotion to pray for the healing of the world.
