We are ordering new computers via FM office and was curious what is being
shipped. Though it will probably change by the time we get ours. In Oct
someone received Dell Optiplex 580's.
What are they shipping now?
Are they dual or quad core?
Amount of memory?
Which model monitors were shipped with them?
Display port or VGA?

Have the issues with MLS and Win 7 been resolved with ver 3.3?

We just received four Dell Optiplex 580s with 4GB of memory. Each has a
Windows 7 license and Win7 logo sticker but Windows XP is loaded on them.
There is no disk restore DVD or recovery partition. The monitors are 17",
1280x1024 with VGA connectors. The systems are low-profile so our wireless
cards will no longer fit. I didn't think to check for the number of cores
but it would be a waste to send units quad core systems given their ultimate
task. I complained about the old Dells that were sent out with a paltry
256MB but 4GB for a 32 bit system running a single java application, wow!

I really am grateful for the extra horsepower and memory but I can't get *too
*excited considering the system is not going to do much. I am puzzled though
why they didn't overpack a Windows 7 DVD. Currently I don't have the time to
reload Windows 7 anyway.

I received 3 computers, no monitors (per FM, not changing them unless
dead). Got the time down to 1 hour to load each with 7 pro, the Roxio
creator and Power DVD player, the driver cd for the usb-modem, and all of
the programs from the MLS website. The Win 7 key on each computer worked
just fine and activated immediately when conneted to the internet. When
loading 7, it showed that there were two partitions on the drive: one was
20GB, and the other 230GB which had the XP operating system on it. I
understood that Dell computers could access the restore partition by
pressing Ctrl and F11 at boot-up, but never got it to work. Probably don't
want to anyway. Did not have any driver issues come up other than getting
the printer drivers from HP.

Ron,

The small partition is accessible as the Diagnostic partition using F12
during POST.
