Isn't THIS a new development in politics? And I wonder why it has never been done before?

Website Seeks to Help Public Hire Lobbyists

Former Rep. J.C. Watts
A new website is offering the general public entrée to one of the Beltway’s most exclusive institutions: K Street.

When it launches next month, YouLobby will help voters pool their money to buy the sort of lobbying muscle that powerful interest groups have long enjoyed. A passionate citizen can use the site to start an advocacy campaign, solicit donations and hire a professional lobbyist with that money.

At least one lobbying firm, Watts Partners, has publicly agreed to participate. In addition to health care companies, colleges and NASCAR, the firm — founded by ex-Rep. J.C. Watts (R-Okla.) — already has some issue-based nonprofits as clients.

Meet the Members-Elect

Rep.-elect Bob Turner
Rep.-elect Bob Turner already knows how to deal with controversy, mediation and drama — political or otherwise. The newest Member of the New York delegation, who won a Congressional seat long held by Democrats on Tuesday, is known for helping launch the outrageous, and often bawdy, "Jerry Springer Show."

TV Titan Is Ready to Try His Hand at Politics

Rep.-elect Mark Amodei emulates the same conservatism as most Republicans in the House: small government, less federal regulation and vows to not increase taxes. But unlike some of his freshman colleagues who are political neophytes, the newest Congressman from Nevada is a former state party chairman and spent more than a decade in the Nevada Legislature, with stints in both chambers.

What's Happening in California — Or Your State?

CongressCAIt can be hard to keep track of California's lawmakers.

Sen. Barbara Boxer defending the federal budget. Rep. Darrell Issa launching investigations. Rep. Jane Harman retiring.

That's why we created a Facebook page where you can track all the news about the Golden State's delegation — CongressCA.

In fact, we started 50 pages, one for each state in the union. Simply find your state in the list below, go to the Facebook page and click the thumb's up "Like" button at the top of the page.

This reminds me of the Eddie Murphy movie The Distinguished Gentleman (rated R).  A guy becomes a politician just so he can get bought off.  (P.S. I don't watch R-rated movies anymore.)
Why is being a lobbyist not illegal?  It seems like it should be.

Why is lobbying not illegal? Probably because of two things:

1. It's an expanded (and abused) right to annoy politicians until they listen to you. I don't think anyone ever thought either politics or petering would become full-time professions.

2. Just like tobacco and booze, lobbying wasn't made illegal because it was in large use before anyone realized it should have been made illegal.

While I'm thinking about it...  A friend of mine died a few months ago.  I was going to get him baptized.  I have his death certificate.  I also have permission from his sole surviving relative.  What do I do now?  I live in Japan.  Is there anyone online way to do submit names?  I haven't really done any geneology since college.  Can someone give me a refresher course?
Thanks.

Jonathan, go to new.familysearch.org and register. You'll then see a menu which teaches you how to use the site and prepare temple ordinance forms. Even I was able to do it!

It's not letting me use the site.  It might be because I live in Japan.
I got frustrated about living here about a week after I showed up.  Since then I go through different phases of discomfort ranging from slow simmer to full out boil.  Today, I think I would call it the type of simmering that creates just enough steam to make the lid rattle.
I'm going to have to do this the long way around.  Thanks Chet.

P.S. We didn't have to evacuate because of the flood.  A whole bunch of others did though.  Very sad and very scary.

Much sorrow, re: y'all's floods. It's getting so we're asking what's next.

The beta family search may not be accessable in Japan, though I thought it was. Maybe the regular familysearch.org will work?

Does anyone know a good where there is a good refresher course on genealogy on the net somewhere?  I really wish I was in the US right now.
