Dear all,

The 10th BIBFRAME Workshop in Europe will take place on September 8th and 9th, 2026 and is being hosted by the University of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain, and will also be available for online participation.

Following the success of previous editions, this conference continues to bring together stakeholders, practitioners, and researchers from the library and information science community to discuss and explore implementations, implications, and the future potential of BIBFRAME. This year, we are delighted to bring the event to Barcelona, a city renowned for its dynamic blend of history, culture, and forward-looking creativity, as well as its strong tradition of academic excellence and innovation.

Registration and the call for presentations are now open on the workshop website:
https://www.bfwe.eu/barcelona_2026

Attendance to the conference is free of charge. You can also access the repository of previous BFWE conferences, including agendas, videos of presentations, and materials at:

As the number of in-production BIBFRAME implementations continues to grow, the community is gaining meaningful experience and insights into practical challenges and solutions. For this year's workshop, we are focusing our theme on implementations and interoperability.

We encourage submissions in these areas, but welcome proposals for presentations, lightning talks, and specific panels on a broad spectrum of perspectives on BIBFRAME, including but not limited to:

  • Implementation: Strategies, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Interoperability: Data conversion, migration, and Library Service Platform integrations.
  • Experiences: Data creation and hybrid workflows (MARC and BIBFRAME).
  • Standards: BIBFRAME and its relationship with RDA, provenance data, and other cataloging frameworks.
  • BIBFRAME and technology: New tools, entity management, and AI-driven approaches to BIBFRAME.
  • BIBFRAME and Open Science/Open Metadata: Integration with research infrastructures and data repositories.
  • User-centered design: Enhancing user experience and accessibility through BIBFRAME.
  • BIBFRAME for cultural heritage institutions: Adapting metadata models for museums, archives, and special collections.

The deadline for proposal submissions is Monday, May 4th.

We highly encourage in-person participation to foster discussion and networking, but we will also accommodate remote speakers and attendees.

We look forward to meeting you in Barcelona and to an engaging and fruitful discussion on the future of BIBFRAME!

Best regards on behalf of the whole BFWE organizing group,

Nancy Lorimer
