Dear all,

The BFWE Organizer Group is happy to announce the 9th BIBFRAME Workshop in Europe, which will take place on 16th and 17th September 2025, hosted by the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, and available for online participation.

Following the success of previous editions, this conference continues to bring together stakeholders, practitioners, and researchers from the library and information science community to discuss and explore implementations, implications, and the future potential of BIBFRAME. This year, we are particularly excited to host the event in Naples, a city with a rich historical and cultural heritage, deeply connected to academic excellence and innovation.

Attendance to the conference is free, please register following the link  https://www.bfwe.eu/naples_2025.

We highly encourage in-person participation to foster discussion and networking, but we will also accommodate remote speakers and attendees. Do note that Naples is very attractive to tourists in September, so make sure to book your hotel early.

The call for presentations for the conference is still open. We invite submissions related to practical applications, case studies, and original research on BIBFRAME’s role in transforming library services, data management, and user experience. In-production implementations of BIBFRAME are popping up and the focus has shifted to addressing practical needs of the library community as opposed to more theoretical concerns.

We welcome proposals for presentations, lightning talks, and specific panels on a broad spectrum of perspectives on BIBFRAME, including but not limited to:
  • Experiences: Data creation and hybrid workflows (MARC 21, UNIMARC, and BIBFRAME).
  • Implementation: Strategies, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Interoperability: Data conversion, migration, and Library Service Platform integrations.
  • Standards: BIBFRAME and its relationship with RDA, provenance data, and other cataloging frameworks.
  • Technology: New tools, entity management, and AI-driven approaches to metadata.
  • BIBFRAME and Open Science/Open Metadata: Integration with research infrastructures and data repositories.
  • User-centered design: Enhancing user experience and accessibility through BIBFRAME.
  • BIBFRAME and AI: The role of machine learning in cataloging and metadata enhancement.
  • BIBFRAME for cultural heritage institutions: Adapting metadata models for museums, archives, and special collections.

Please refer to https://www.bfwe.eu/naples_2025 for the links to the CfP submission and registration forms, and to www.bfwe.eu for the repository of previous BFWE conferences, including agendas and materials.

The deadline for the proposals is Monday, May 5.

We look forward to welcoming you to Naples and to an engaging and fruitful discussion on the future of BIBFRAME!

Best regards on behalf of the whole BFWE organizing group,

Nancy Lorimer
