Alternatively, I have seen that under / Tournement / options / can set up an opening PGN file. Unfortunately, I do not know which PGN file is suitable and where you can download it.

I wanted to make a tournament with 100 games, where 50 different openings are played and the same for white and black.

hi, maybe someone can give me a tip.

I would like to set up an opening book in Arena, because I noticed that almost always the same opening move is made in tournament games, and thus the game results are almost always the same. For example, Lc0_11248 almost always opens g2-g3 and 21603 very often in English (c2-c4).

That's why I downloaded the opening book Perfect2018.abk and pushed it into the arena folder / Books /.
Then I opened Arena.exe, and under / Book / Mangage / Use Arena main book /, I set the hook. Then I typed 4 under / move selection / use book up to halfmove /. Terminated with OK.

Then I set up and started a tournement between the two Lc0, but nothing has changed and the same openings are still being played.
That does not seem to work.

Does anyone have a plan?
thank you in advance.

you could use mine shown in the next post to yours and change priority to 9 for the the moves you want.

thank you Jupiter,

it seems that there are a few misfires, as far as the regularity is concerned.

Game 1 through 4 was the same opening for w / b (ok).
Game 5 and 6 are different openings (not ok).
7 and 8 is the same (ok).
9, 10 and 11 totally different openings (not ok).

What have I done wrong?

As soon as I open Arena and start the tournement, your opening png will also open.

Is there anything else to be done in the opening pgn?

So far, I have not done anything, and only the tournement started.

The opening pgn remains open.

I do it the following way: In Arena click Engines -> Tournament -> Options -> Starting Position (Load from PGN/EDP file, choose randomly)
and right below you can specify a PGN (for example the one I attached) and how many plies are supposed to be predetermined. Then choose the engines to compete, the time controls and start the tournament.

Meanwhile, I also get the Perfect2018.abk opening to run.
I did it like in your picture. I also tried your opening abk, but with every opening file I have the same problem.

Game 1 and 2: White and Black are supposed to play the same opening.
game 3 and 4: white and black are supposed to play the same opening again, but a different one than in game 1 and 2. etc.

For 100 games, 50 different openings should be chosen at random.

The question is, where to put it in arena?

In "Load PGN up to move" I use 4 just as you. Just did a quick test with your settings and it behaves as it should. 1st and 2nd game have the same 4 opening moves and colors reversed, same with 3rd and 4th and so on.
I set the tournament type to Round Robin. Other than that I have no idea what is going wrong on your end.

thanks,
have tried your PGN (see picture).
but still the same problem as the other opening books, which I have already tried.
Getting the PGN up and running works wonderfully. Only that the openings are uneven (as described in my previous posts), I get not regulated.

TCEC always does it in the super final, making 100 games with 50 (x 2) different openings, so that neither of the two engines has any advantage or disadvantage.

What number of halfmoves do you set?

You can also verify it by opening the games and comparing the first 4 moves. But as kosteuk mentioned, your screenshot suggests that everything works fine.

What is decisive? / ECO / or / Opening /?

I really do not know it.

ECO numbers can change after the book is left because of transpositions, so I think it should be fine.
