| The diffusion of innovation.... |
|
|
The newsletter lands in your inbox every Friday. My hope is that you grab a cuppa, locate a biscuit, and take a few minutes to have a read. Then, importantly, share it with your teammates. They can then repeat the process with their own cuppa and biscuit. Before you know it, we've created a highly sophisticated communication strategy fuelled entirely by tea and baked goods.
There is a technical name for this: the diffusion of innovation. It describes how information spreads from one person to another, then to another, and so on. In simple terms, one person reads something interesting and tells a few colleagues, who tell a few more, until eventually everyone knows about it. So, every time you share the newsletter, congratulations, you are an innovator.
I am writing this on Thursday morning, the day after England's match. What turned out to be a comfortable win has inevitably got England fans dreaming about the possibility of reaching the final. As football supporters know, we can go from "we've got no chance" to "it's coming home" in roughly 90 minutes.
I've also enjoyed watching some of the so-called "smaller" teams. The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Cape Verde have produced some fantastic performances and impressive results. They have shown what can happen when a team believes in itself and isn't particularly interested in the script everyone else has written for them.
All of this reminds me of our softball finals. Teams are starting to think, "Maybe, just maybe, this could be our year." I've been lucky enough to play in a final myself and can confirm that it is every bit as exciting, nerve-racking, and memorable as you would imagine. So, my top tip for everyone is: relax and enjoy it. Easier said than done, I know. Remember that it's meant to be fun. Treat people as you would like to be treated, speak to others with respect, and don't let the occasion get the better of you. Things can become a little tense in the run up, particularly if someone claims they were definitely safe when everyone else saw them out by about three metres.
Most importantly, remember the ethos of the league. You can play hard and support one another, enjoy the experience, and make some great memories. And if all else fails, there's always next year's campaign, and another biscuit.

| Fixtures Update |
|
At the time of writing this on Thursday night we have 4 postponed games finishing up before teams head to the pub. That leaves 8 postponed games to be played in the final rest week.
Before then we have round 5 fixtures next week. The weather forecast for next week is 30 degrees and sunshine, so it is all looking good for 22 fixtures being completed.
Hopefully by Friday week we should have a good idea about who will be playing in which knock out competition and aginst which opposition.
Congratulations to Age Against the Machine, SSAFA & The Tins, Geckos and only St John and Charlie’s Angels. All of you have made it through to the Cup / Bluestep Cup.
Finally At this time of year we really need you to do your fixture admin straight after you have played. It takes 2 minutes. The more information we get, the quicker we can set up the next round of games for you.
