Finals Night - planning ahead

We’re absolutely delighted to introduce our new drinks sponsor for this season, The Talent Set!

Some of you may recognise the name already. In fact, this isn’t entirely a new relationship. I’ve personally known The Talent Set team for many years, and thinking back, Victoria was actually involved right at the very beginning of the league in 2006. Which, incredibly, makes her connection to the Charity Softball League a full 20 years strong - wowzers indeed!

While they may be joining us as the “new kids on the block” in an official capacity, The Talent Set team are anything but newcomers. They are a brilliant group, deeply committed to getting things right and making this a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

What to Expect

The Talent Set crew will be out in full force at Finsbury Park, bringing:

  • Good vibes
  • Free drinks for all attendees
  • A few fun surprises and activities to add to the atmosphere
  • Loads of energy as we head toward finals day

We’re genuinely thrilled to have them involved as we take an exciting next step this year…

Finals at the London Mets Stadium on Weds 5 August.

For the first time, we’ll be hosting our finals at the London Mets stadium, and it’s looking fantastic.

Sophia and I visited last Friday, and we can confirm:

  • The pitches are already marked out and looking sharp
  • Players competing in the finals are in for a real treat

There’s plenty of space for everyone:

  • Relax on the grass
  • Or take in the action from the bleachers

Whether you’re playing or simply coming along to soak up the atmosphere, it’s shaping up to be a brilliant day.

And that same spirit applies beyond the pitch: if you have hiring questions in this current market, The Talent Set are on hand to offer guidance and support.

What We Need From You

To make sure everything runs smoothly (and that there are plenty of refreshments and food for everyone), we need your help.

Please let us know:

  • Whether you’ll be attending
  • Your dietary requirements
  • How many people you’ll be bringing

We’re starting planning earlier than ever this year to ensure we get the right number of drinks and the right amount and type of food.

There will be a form for you to fill in next week, don't ignore it - as we will buy food and drink according to the numbers you say you are brining.

We truly can’t wait to see you all there, so put Wednesday 5 August in your diaries!! and a huge thank you again to The Talent Set for coming on board and helping make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.

Having a challenging time?

Every season brings a few changes, and this year is no exception. We’re sorry to share that two teams, the T-Rexes and MSF Mantarays, won’t be continuing with us this season.

The T-Rexes are currently navigating a significant organisational restructure, and we send them our very best as they work through what we know is a challenging time. Meanwhile, the MSF Mantarays have decided that this simply isn’t their year to take part, and we fully respect their decision.

Both teams have been fantastic members of the league, and they’ll be greatly missed on and off the field.

As ever, we know that building and sustaining a team isn’t always easy. If you’re finding numbers tight, struggling to recruit, or just want to explore new ways to boost engagement and grow your squad, please do get in touch. We’ve been there ourselves, and we’re always happy to share ideas, lend support, and help you make the most of your season.

We currently have a small charity with 9 players ready to join a team, and a previous team with 3 - so let us know.

The strength of this league has always been its community, and we’re here to support each other every step of the way.

    Admin, Admin, Admin!!!

A quick (but important!) reminder to all teams: admin needs to be completed by Fridays.

We’ve noticed a few delays recently, and while we know everyone is busy, missing admin deadlines does slow things down behind the scenes and impacts the smooth running of the league.

This league is run entirely by volunteers, people who give their time because they genuinely love what this community brings to so many players and charities. So in return, all we ask is that you get your admin done on time.

Do it on the way home, do it in the pub, do it from the dugout, just get it done by Friday.

Thank you for helping keep everything running smoothly.

      Next week - the weather

And because it wouldn’t be a British summer without it…the forecast next week is looking very British, think four seasons in a day (possibly before lunch).

      A reminder to:

      Keep communication clear between teams

Hold your nerve, don’t rush decisions

Avoid cancelling too early unless absolutely necessary

Conditions can change quickly, so wherever possible, make the call later rather than earlier.

      Meet Sophia

      Hello everyone,

It is a pleasure to introduce myself. I am Sophia, a new member of the London Charity Softball League committee.

I have been playing softball for around three years now, originally picking it up as a fun way to connect with colleagues and to meet and network with players from other charities. It has since become something I genuinely love. You simply cannot beat the feeling of making a great catch or connecting cleanly with the ball.

Professionally, I work as a Programme Manager for Principal Gifts within the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Directorate at King’s College London. My role focuses on supporting the University and its Health Partners to secure transformational gifts of £5m and above. Most recently, I supported the University’s largest ever gift, which is enabling the EMBRACE programme, a pioneering initiative using digital technologies and AI to improve lifelong health outcomes for mothers, babies and families.

As part of the committee, of which there are now 12. I am specifically working closely with our sponsors and partners to support the league and ensure that players continue to enjoy and thrive in this brilliant community. I am really looking forward to contributing and helping the league go from strength to strength.

      This is Dan

A total legend! I met Dan last week in the pub. He was happiest in his 'retro' softball top - the one's we made 8 years ago. He refuses to wear a new one, which got us thinking at Committee head quarters - which one do you prefer?

        Hi all,

Thanks for the mention, your support is appreciated, however we would have appreciated a headsup that you were going to actually detail what was happening with us, because this hasn't been publicly communicated by FTF, and it might get us in trouble for mentioning it to external parties.

Bit late to do anything about it now of course, but just a flag for such instances in the future.

        D

        Hi Duncan,

I am so sorry. This was my mistake. You are of course right. I am so sorry.

No worries, it came from a place of solidarity, and I'd be surprised if there's enough SLT on the average softball team to chat across orgs, lol
