I'm learning Factor (http://factorcode.org/). It's cool, but I'm so new
to it I'm not sure I could give a compelling presentation. However if
there's interest...

I'm kind of at the same point for Android. It always looks so no-
brainer until I throw a real-world requirement at it...

Well, if we don't have an official topic, I have plenty of things to
keep me out of mischief Thursday evening. (Honest!)

Cheers,

Doreen

Hi,

I have lots of stuff also and will be meeting the wife for supper at 7:30.

If I were to choose a topic. I would say that we pick an expendable laptop and...
Install,
discuss,
use,

The android programming environment and tools
to the point of writing a "hello world" app.

I dont have a phone yet, but Im hoping to soon.

Brian:

Were you thinking full Android programming setup or Google App
Inventor? The former is more or less straight Java programming, which
is more code-intensive. The latter is more like building with Legos
(not knocking it; I <3 Legos), but does require an Android device to
be plugged directly into the computer. I've set up a couple of
workstations (Windows and Linux) for Android, going the slightly non-
trad. route (NetBeans, rather than the default Eclipse IDE). That
being said, it's nothing you can't get from Project Kenai (the
NetBeans Android plugin--with Gnome screenshots: w00t!
http://gerry.ws/2009/01/1074/how-to-setup-netbeans-for-android-development.html)
and the official Android docs (http://developer.android.com/guide/
developing/eclipse-adt.html). Relatively painless--even *I* only
managed to shoot myself in the proverbial foot, like, once.

Cheers,

Doreen

I'm also interested in Android development (mainly because I'm curious
and I want a non-phone wi-fi Android device). I also like LEGOs.

Our little group should maybe officially break for summer. Perhaps we
should have done that at the start instead of deluding ourselves ;-)

Of course, I'm up for hosting if we do meet.

talk to you all soon,

Matthew

Camera club breaks for the summer as well other than a picnic. Too many people doing too many other things in the summertime.

Hi all,

Matthew. You can make the call on meet or not. Summer off sounds good to me.. It is a struggle to get to all meetings.
If you pick a rally date for fall, and I will shoot for that.

Doreen, I dont know enough to answer your question about android.
I saw this the other day and was interested.
http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/hello-world.html
I would hope we could explore and demo all of the methods.
By fall I should have a phone. Certainly if I could program it.

I will look for the meeting consensus announcement and look forward to any type of android
presentation later.

Just for clarification: We are not meeting tonight. Decided to break for
the summer and come back strong in the fall.

We'll be doing something on the Android platform for our 4th Thursday in
September meeting.

Thanks!
