Hey, folks:

We have another meeting coming up in a couple of weeks, and IIRC, we
need to decide where that meeting will be held. Brian reminded me
that two of the options volunteered were Matt's new business or
Brian's office space.

Thanks,

Doreen

Hello Doreen,

thanks for keeping on this. I'm (thankfully) very busy with my new
business. It's going very well.

My storefront does not have seating yet, so it probably won't work well
for this next meeting. If Brian is okay with hosting (and I can help him
set up or do anything else that is needed), that would be better.

Doreen, are you still interested in presenting your project for the
first meeting? If we can get a few things confirmed, we can advertise
the tech talk (or at least invite specific people).

thanks and talk to you all soon,

Matthew

Hello,

My upstairs spot is raw, but ready.

I have chairs and tables that can be moved up there when needed.

Matthew:

Sure, I'd planned to boil the basic SQL Injection Hacks prevention
thing down to a presentation--it's on my "To Do" list for this
weekend, in fact. If we have a projector to plug into my laptop, I
can do it from there; otherwise, 11 x 17 prints of the slides taped to
the wall will work just as well for a smallish group.

Glad to know that things are off to a roaring start, btw.

Cheers,

Doreen

Hi,

just at thought, but why cant we use desktop sharing, vnc, or remote
desk top for a presentation like this?

IN other words, why not have everyone watch from their own laptop.

By the way, what Day are we talking about. I did nt reschedule on my
calendar.

Hello again,

I think our meeting is on for February 12, at Brian's conference room.
We can choose the time. Should we start at 6:30? I know that later than
6:00 works better for Doreen and it does for me too.

As for presentation technology, screen sharing via VNC or something like
that in a group would be very cool. I've never done it and don't know
how (but it'd be fun to learn).

A very low tech solution would be to have the presentation in a sharable
format (PDF, OpenOffice, HTML) with page numbers. Before the start of
the presentation, everyone loads a copy and follows along on their own
laptop. This would be great for code examples, which are difficult to
see from a projector anyway.

Does the room have internet access? The presentation could be loaded to
our Google group beforehand and everyone could just download it from there.

talk to you all soon and I'm looking forward to it!

Hi,

Ok, the 12th is open for me...

I will have the ping pong table as a work space and bring up a bunch of
chairs.

There is internet, but I have yet to decide if I want to make it
wireless or not.

The 'remote desktop" is very easy in ubuntu. The setup screen is
attached. As far as I understand... Many could view the presenters
screen (with pointer movements), WITHOUT control, at the same time.

and all be inside of the firewall so no issues there.

We should try it regardless if it is used for this presentation.

Brian:

Thanks so much for hosting! Given my 'druthers, I'd prefer a 6:30
meeting, but would be able to make it at 6:00.

Technologically, I don't have a preference for presentation--either
remote desktop or downloading/sneaker-netting a PDF version of the
presentation onto all the laptops works equally well from my
perspective.

Thanks much and see you in a couple of weeks!

So are we meeting at 6:00 or 6:30?

Well, since no one else is piping up, I'm gonna push for 6:30.

Brian: Where do I need to be? I can't recall the address.

Thanks,

Hi,

The address is 1230 Clinton Street (Near the Boy and Girls Club, North
Side of La Crosse.)

It will be a side door, but pretty obvious

Ill have wireless up and going.

Pretty plain Jane room, but workable.

6:30 is fine with me.
