Major Elder received many compliments on the new
email blast.
He gave the state of the District, currently 82
officers total in the whole 3rd NOPD District. Pre-2005 it was over
100.
Currently 8 National Guardsmen per shift as a
supplement to patrols. Note: There are 3 - 8 hour
shifts.
He cited lack of space for juvenile offenders,
total of 24 spaces for the whole city.
Resulting in many juvenile
offenders being let out for anything less than murder, this is the reason for the increase in juvenile
offences.
He announced the 3rd NOPD District (which is still
in trailers on their Pre-Corp of Engineers debacle site of 1700 Moss
street) will be moving to trailers in the parking lot of the UNTO
building within the next 2 weeks. The UTNO building is in the 4600 block of
Paris Ave, right off of Mirabeau.
The City is in Negotiation with UTNO in
the purchasing of this building, it will not be entirely for the 3rd NOPD
District.
Talk between State, City and National Guard has
ceased for keeping the location at 1700 Moss Street location where police have
called home for decades.
**Major Elder informed all that Armed
Robberies have increased in the last month. Police believe most of the
perpetrators are spilling over from other districts. MId-City has taken the
brunt of these crimes. NOTE: 3rd district ends at Carrollton
Avenue.
Businesses -ONE HUGE CLUE that he pointed
out, if you see someone overly dressed for the month of July's 90 something
degree weather to call 911 immediately. There is a good chance that this individual is up to no good and
could possibly be casing a business.
**Pedestrian armed robberies have been by
small groups of street walkers, late night or early morning hours that
happen to catch you in front of your home or as you are running out to get
something forgotten in your vehicle mostly late night.
Anyone wishing to help the 3rd District either
individually or as a group a NEW SUPPORT group has been formed called COPS3.
