Does this time of year bring that special happiness to your
heart and spring in your step? Well, hop, skip and jump
over to the December Harrison Avenue
Marketplace where we celebrate this season of
giving. On
Wednesday, December 10th, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, the
Harrison Avenue Marketplace at 801 Harrison Avenue in
the West Marine parking lot offers an
expanded variety of vendors with arts, crafts, gifts, foods,
charities, and choirs. The market's hours will
also be expanded and extended to 9:00 PM. This
Marketplace's diversity is complete, showcasing every facet of
our cultural community. And it all starts with our
churches and schools. Beginning at 5:00 PM,
the bell choir of St. Paul's will perform
followed by the angelic voices of St.
Dominic's choir. Our own Freddy
Yoder will make an appearance as Santa
Claus giving away toys to all good children from the
Harrison Avenue Marketplace toy chest assisted by the elves of
Lakeview Christian Center wearing those
bright green Care Team shirts. We'll
also have a new toy collection drive at the Beacon of
Hope booth where each gift will be rewarded with
$5.00 in Marketplace Money spendable on all of our vendors'
arts, crafts, and foods. These toys will be sent to
replace children's lost toys in flood ravaged areas where the
Beacon has opened new resource centers in Cedar
Rapids, Iowa and Bridge City,
Texas.
And you can support our school's music programs with
celebratory ale from St. Dominic's beer
gardens or hot chocolate and decorated cookies from
St. Paul's who also offers beautiful student-made
artworks. You can also purchase Rita
LeGrand's jewelry for Bridge House
and NOFD Firemen calendars from the
Pampered Chef. Pick up a present for
your pooch at Lakeview Veterinary
Hospital. And the giving continues with more
unique hand-crafted gifts made from fired clay,
precious metals, sparkling gemstones, natural fibers, exotic
woods, water colors, oil paints, photographic film, scented
wax, herbs, plants, flowers and blown
glass by so many of our talented vendors. Then the feast moves forward
with food. Many of our favorite holiday foods are back
from Robert's Fresh Market, Drago's, Café Adelaide,
Meals from the Heart, Ralph's on the Park, TJ Gourmet,
Galatoire's, Troy Martin, Serrano's, Beebe's, Vaucresson,
Chop's Bistro, Forte Grove, Champagne Dreams, the Catering
Connection, Crepes a la Cart and CNO Meal
Solutions. There are fresh roasted nuts from
New Orleans Nuts, Handmade pepper jelly from
Leslie Mills, vegetarian specialties from
Sally's, cool snow balls and gelato from
Nick's.
And if you feel a bit over indulged, finally fulfill yours or
your loved one's New Year's resolution with the gift of
physical fitness at Nola Pilates.
Visit our VIP tent
sponsored by Sojourn-Lakeview Baptist Church
as they spread good cheer and the Good
News.
Once you've stuffed your sack full of goodies, you won't have
to walk far if you've parked in the abundant space provided in
St. Dominic's school yard.
Pencil in
the dates for our Spring 2009 markets
on March 11, April 8, and May
13. The vendor application
process has begun and it all starts at our web site:
www.harrisonavenuemarketplace.org And as we share this
special season with our families, friends and neighbors, we
can reflect on its true meaning, sung by the heavenly hosts as
they announced the birth of a King to shepherds tending their
flocks, "Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward
Man".
