Dear Stream Team,

Please take a moment to become informed about the proposed Local Coastal Plan, as it has important repercussions for the future of the mountains.

If you can attend the Coastal Commission hearing that would be fantastic, but sending an email or fax is good too.

I apologize if you are getting multiple emails about this!

Thanks for your interest in the mountains, Rosi

Dear Topanga Leaders,

Will you send this out to your volunteers?  Feel free to make direct phone calls, too.  This is a very important request, not only from Susan Nissman, but from Zev himself.  He is asking we get at least 40 Topangans to Santa Barbara on April 10th to show support on the LCP.  This is super important that we unite with our Supervisor in the protection of the Santa Monica Mountains.  Zev cannot do it alone! We need to take a stand to protect our environment.  Susan is expecting many developers will be at the hearing in great numbers to go against the plan.

PLEASE PLAN ON GOING TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!  I KNOW IT MAY BE INCONVENIENT TIMING, BUT WE WILL NEVER GET THIS KIND OF CHANCE AGAIN.

Please read Susan's letter below.  It has details about the plan, how you can participate, and transportation offer to Santa Barbara.  Info is also available on OneTopanga.com.

We need you to respond immediately.  Please, please try to make it.  It's for our future.

Thanks so much,

Stacy Sledge

Dear Friends of Topanga & the Mountains,

The time has come to stand once more in support of how the land will be used today and into the future in the Santa Monica Mountains

It is vital that you, and as many people as possible, attend the California Coastal  Commission’s Public Hearing April 10th in Santa Barbara to express your support of the Santa Monica Mountains Local Coastal Plan (LCP.) The SMM LCP protects the creeks, canyons, mountains, habitat, and natural resources of this unique Mediterranean ecosystem now and into the future.

Please attend and testify for the mountains and the LCP.  If you cannot attend, send your letter—if possible by April 2nd.  You will find attached 15 top facts about the LCP, and a sample letter you may sign as is, or modify with your own words.  You may also check out Supervisor Yaroslavsky’s blogs on this issue at http://zev.lacounty.gov/blog/the-beauty-is-in-the-details

.

Zev and his staff have worked tirelessly with our communities for many years to get to this critical juncture of preserving and protecting the natural environment, putting “teeth” into the land use plans that govern the future of this very special place.

Almost 50 years ago, a previous generation of county planners came to Topanga with plans to build it out for 35,000 residents!  Topanga citizens united to resist such gross urbanization and commercialization of the mountains and their canyons.  Their bottom line, as is the SMM LCP’s, was:  LET THE LAND DICTATE THE USE and RESOURCE PROTECTION SHOULD HAVE PRIORITY OVER DEVELOPMENT.

It was a philosophy of protection and stewardship then, and its time has come full circle NOW on April 10th to make it real.

Topanga needs this LCP to protect the future of the Santa Monica Mountains and the LCP needs our support!
