Teaching then and now.

It’s exhausting listening to some of the preaching and teaching out there today. If there’s anything clear from scripture it’s that people didn’t have a clue. At least that initiated some pretty interesting thought and discussion. Not that we want to go back there.

But at least… where’s the Mystery?

Ahh Chris

You know full well that there is no room for mystery in the LCA as one pastor so nicely pointed out to me in the old LCA list. We have the answers for we have Scripture and church teachings based on Scripture!

And I guess there is also no room for questions, as the shutting down of the list has proven.....

Have you noticed how you immediately get branded as a trouble maker when you put even the smallest question forward?

Thankfully the LCA is good at silencing troublemakers. I am waiting in anticipation when the official LCAi list opens again, with set rules and codes of behaviours, where everyone will know what is OK an what is not. Conversations will go something like this.

Person 1. I have just presented a brilliant sermon on homosexuality, you may listen to it here

Person 2. Thank you for posting this. Yes I think it was very good! You fully emphasized the teachings of our church well.

Person 1. Yes, I made sure that people were left in no doubt that certain types of immorality are not condoned by God, and that while we are called to love the sinner, we are called to persecute and exterminate the sin from the face of this Earth. it is our duty as Christians to do so..

Person 3. Ah guys, with regards to homosexuality, I am not sure you can use the term sin here

Person 1. How dare you say so! The teachings on this are very clear. We know what we have to do and say!

Person 4. Yes I agree, the church says that if someone is of the mistaken belief that they are homosexuals they can change this, and we do have biblically trained Lutherans who can help them see the errors of their ways and change them to become acceptable creatures in the eyes of God

Person 3. But, scientific evidence says that...

Person 1,2,4. (in unison, I.e.emails within seconds of each other). Enough! You are going against the rules of this list, we are offended, MODERATOR, MODERATOR!!!!!!!

Moderator: Oops, sorry guys, I truly apologize for letting the comments of person 3 through. I had not read the newest list sent by our leaders which contains the names of people banned from contributing on this forum. Person 3 has been declared persona non grata. Ignore this person's comments, they are no representative of the teachings of the LCA.

Person 1. As I was saying, aren't we wonderful?

END of the exchange

Not sure that I want to be part of that list then. It will be too boring, I think

What do you think?

Does this mean there will be a time when you all look back at the old list going "remember the good old days when conversations were not moderated and everyone used to say what they thought" and I will be stuck thinking about what could have been. And here I was just about to join... :(

Oh no, does this mean that you missed out on all the fun of the old list? The bible used to be thrown at people, the Augsburg Confession, Luther's writing and some odd LCA document here and there were presented as good theological proofs. You had the creme de la creme of the LCA pastors discussing in depth topics. It was riveting, life changing, thought provoking fun! Sadly the tone of the discussion went down the drain when they let the plebs and the women in, which was sort of the end of it all. They kept on asking too many dumb questions and where not getting the most obvious of church teachings (lol). I am assuming that the pastors are still talking to each other in their by invite only list. So if you are a pastor and or really good, you may want to join that list.

In the meantime, welcome to this list in exile. We are still small, but I am hopeful that we will create our own history :-). -------

I've had my fair share of pastors of pastors and theologians that spewed forth their 'theologic' on Neil's blog. I am just a glutton for punishment. With iPad envy - it is one of my seven deadly sins.
