A Bisexual Atheist’s Poem to Her Religious Mother

The rhymes may sound forced, but the sentiment is powerful. Shannon wrote it for her mother after coming out to her as a bisexual… and then having to deal with her mom’s “bigoted view on the subject.”

When it comes to sexuality
You are as biased as you are pious
I try to understand your mentality
Why the Bible is supposedly good morality
When it is mostly agony there, tragedy
Why the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy
While a dead gay kid is only a casualty
When will you see it is insanity

…

You should stop kneeling
Stop praying for healing
Start showing true feeling
It’s quite appealing
