Dear Madame or Sir,

First of all I am looking forward to travelling to India and to
working as
an intern at MIT Manipal. Please brief me about what to expect
there....
I am about to book my flight but therefore I have some questions:

Would it be easier if I arrived some days earlier? I thought about a
week
(internship is starting May 10,that means May 3.)
Will I have some kind of lodging?
Am I right that I have to look myself for a temporary lodging solution
if I
arrive the 3rd of May?

Thank you very much
Best regards

Mike

Manipal.Presently in Manipal you can expect a nice weather but
slightly hot during the day time which is generally between 30°C-35°C.

employer making your interns-ship go smoother. Adding to this, you
would face no problem with your lodging as it would be taken care in

Greetings from IAESTE IndiaMIT! Congratulations on being accepted as
an intern to India.

MIT Manipal is part of Manipal University; an international University
town spread over 600 acres and housing thousands of students. With
world-class infrastructure and hospitable people around you, I am sure
you are going to love the ambience of this place as much as I do.

Since you would be arriving during the month of May, you should
expect the temperature to be somewhere around 30-35⁰C with a high
level of humidity. However, by mid-June we expect the monsoon season
to commence so I would request you to plan accordingly.

As far as boarding and lodging is concerned, we at IAESTE IndiaMIT
shall provide you with free Non-AC accommodation during the period of
your internship. AC Rooms can also be provided (subjected to
availability) and will be charged extra.

We would welcome you arriving a week in advance to the start of your
internship as that would provide you with enough time to settle down
till your internship starts. Accommodation, however, is generally
provided only for the duration of the internship and thus we cannot
guarantee if we would be able to provide for an accommodation a week
before. On our part, I assure you that we shall do our best in
arranging for the accommodation and shall get back to you regarding
the same as soon as possible.

Hey Mike,

Congratulations on bagging the internship at Manipal Institute of Technology. I assure you that you will have an amazing time here. We at IAESTE IndiaMIT will make sure that your stay here is a pleasant and a memorable one.

Manipal Institute of Technology, a constitute of the Manipal university, situated at Udupi in karnataka, is a world class technical institution and is a college of high repute not only in India but globally too! It is famous for producing some of the finest engineers in the country. The infrastructure, ambiance and the facilities here are of international standards.

I second your decision of coming to India a week before your internship starts as that would not only help you get acquainted with the place and make you feel at home before your work begins but would also give you ample of time to finish off the initial formalities. You can expect a hot and humid climate once you come. But soon the monsoons would commence and it would become cooler and more pleasant. As far as the lodging is concerned, you need not worry. IAESTE  IndiaMIT would take care of it. Non AC accommodation is provided free of cost while for an AC accommodation you will be charged a nominal amount.

According to the rules, the accommodation is provided for the duration of the internship. However, if you plan to arrive a week before, we shall make some arrangements and get back to you as soon as possible.

Looking forward to see you.

Hello Mike!

Congratulations on your internship to India. We at IAESTE IndiaMIT
hope to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable one.
Manipal University is one of the leading higher education providers in
India. Spread over 600 acres, Manipal University is home to 20,000
students pursuing undergraduate and post graduate programs in diverse
subjects. MIT itself is a world class technical institution. It offers
graduate programmes in 16 disciplines and post graduate programmes in
21 different streams. The infrastructure and the facilities available
are world class. Speaking of Manipal the city in general, it is a
sprawling University town with various options available for food and
accommodation.

The weather during your period of internship will be quite hot towards
the beginning and you can expect temperatures between 30 – 35 degrees.
Towards the end, the weather becomes quite humid and rainy.

It would definitely be easier if you arrived a few days earlier as it
will allow you to get accustomed to the city, and will also provide
you with enough time to finish the necessary formalities like the
paperwork and registration. You can also meet your employee before
your internship commences.

Arriving three to four days before the internship would be ideal
rather than a week. IAESTE IndiaMIT guarantees accommodation only
during the course of the internship, but we will definitely help in
finding accommodation subject to availability and at a nominal cost.

Please feel free to mail if you have any other doubts or queries.

Dear friends,

I had gone through the reply of all of you to the query posted by me as mike.
Most of them were well written but there is something which I want to clarify.

The accommodation is provided to the interns by Manipal University and we always have problems with accommodation, specially during the peak months. So never tell the intern that he can come a week before his internship begins because you never know what the scene with accommodation would be at that point of time. Hence, we want the intern to arrive in Manipal only 2-3 days before the commencement of his/her internship. If some1 plans to come early, tell them that u will find out with the concerned authorities and reply to them at the earliest. N cm back to me.

I will be posting specific doubts to be answered by chosen people. Please be very prompt with your replies. This is will go on till before the end semester exams begin.

Regarding the trips, all LC members are requested to be ready with their presentations tomorrow. The tiew will be msgd.

Regards,
Harsh

Hi Paul,

It is great to hear from you. Congratulations on your selection for the internship.

The accommodation provided to you will be completely free of cost. But if you choose to stay in an A/C room, you will be charged extra - INR 2400 /- per month.

The salary given to you is enough to provide for your food and utility charges like electricity, water bills, etc. with some amount of savings.

The mobile connection you opt for will be completely self-paid for. But, the mobile tariffs here in Manipal are pretty cheap and affordable.

You will be given free access to the internet, library facilities and sport facilities like access to swimming pool, etc.

The college buildings are not very far from the hostels. They are within walking distances. However, you will be provided a bicycle for easy transport to and fro college. But, if you want to use the public transport there are autorickshaws and college buses available. College buses are free of cost and will take you to your college from the hostel, but autorickshaws take you anywhere within the city and can be a tad bit expensive.

Manipal has a good number of restaurants to eat out and they are pretty affordable for dinners or lunches outside. It also has many messes providing food for cheap prices in case you wish to eat out of your mess once in a while. The public bus services to nearby tourist places like beaches are inexpensive. In case you wish to use these facilities, you will have to pay out of your own pocket.

If you wish to know anything more, don't hesitate to buzz me.

Hi Kuing,
First of all, heartiest congratulations to you from IAESTE
IndiaMIT as you have been selected for internship here at MIT,Manipal.
It is great to hear from you Kuing.
Regarding your accommodation, you would be provided with
the choice of Non-AC and AC rooms, wherein Non-AC room would be free
of cost for you and for AC room, you would have to pay Rs 2400 extra
every month.
As far as the food is concerned, Manipal offers a wide range of foods
and delicacies. We get almost all types of food here. Italian,
continental, Chinese, Indian, include some of them. We also have a lot
of messes in the campus, where we get meals at a very reasonable
price. The food all over Manipal is also pretty cheap, so you can eat
outside more often.
I think your salary would be enough to meet your expenses as you only
have to spend on your meals. Rest of your basic needs have been taken
care by us. Please inform us which type of room you would like to stay
in so that we can make necessary arrangements for the same well in
advance. Please feel free to contact us for any further queries.

Dear Sarah,

Heartiest Congratulations on being selected for an internship in
India !!!!

Moving over to your queries as mentioned-

1.How to get to Manipal-The closest airport to Manipal, is in
Mangalore. There are frequent flight services that ply between Mumbai
and Mangalore. To know more about the flight services available, flight
fares and flight dates,i would suggest you to refer to these sites-
1.www.makemytrip.com
2.www.yatra.com

We would suggest you to avoid using train or bus services from Mumbai
to Mangalore.

A Cab will be sent to pick you up from the Mangalore airport and will
drop you at our office.

Incase, there is non-availability of cab,we suggest you to hire a taxi
from the airport itself .There are prepaid taxis available that
provide passenger services from Mangalore to Manipal ,for a fare of Rs
750 (prices are subject to conditions like season, day timings...but
generally the charge does not exceed Rs 850).You should ask the taxi
driver to take you to MIT Hostels in Manipal, and most often you would
have the exact address of your stay emailed to you before you start
from your country.Incase,if you have any problems ,you can stop by at
a nearby phone booth and contact any of the numbers of our Incoming
welfare team,given on our website.

2.Check list-
>You should carry your original documents that were used in your entire selection procedure.
>Carry 10-15 passport size photographs.
>Photocopies of Passport and visa.
>Carry a decent amount of cash to sustain you through your journey , transport and food, till you receive your first payment.
>Have adequate vaccination done and carry proper medicines, so as to avoid any kind of sickness, taking place due to change of place, weather.

I hope i have been able to answer your queries to your satisfaction. If
you still have doubts ,feel free to ask.
We'll be glad to help you out.

Abhishek

We would suggest you to

Hi Laura
First of all Heartiest congratulations to you from IAESTE IndiaMIT.
I am Ibrahim, Local Committee Member, IAESTE IndiaMIT.
Regarding your query about visa procedures, I would suggest you to apply for student visa and this visa is always being preferred by most of the interns coming to India. And also it is valid for 6 months and according to the revised visa structure, the fee comes to 89,00 euros. The link for the Indian Embassy placed at Austria is as follows ( http://www.indianembassy.at ) and the following pdf file contains necessary information regarding visas to India including fee structures.( http://www.indianembassy.at/content/visa-passport/documents/RevisedVisaInformation_Jan29_2010.pdf ).

During summer, the temperature will be around 30 to 35 degree Celsius and so i guess that shouldnt be a problem. I would advice you to bring sheer lightweight fabrics and cotton would be the best option. cotton polyester blends and denims can also be your other options. I am sure you will get along with the environment around here soon.

If you further more queries just paste on the group or else mail me @ kalu...@gmail.com

With Regards
Ibrahim Kaleel

Dear Shyam,

Sorry to buzz u but i wanted to rectify a few things. Sports facilities also include gymnasium.
We are no longer providing the trainees with bicycles. please make a note of it n don't ever mention it in the future coz it may lead to serious problems upon the trainee's arrival.
Otherwise, its extremely well written and hope ur elaborate e-mails continue whn u r actually writing to an intern.

Cheers,

Harsh

@ Abhishek: The reply is good but u must mention in detail about the options to come to Mangalore are Mumbai n Bangalore. N from there take a flight to Mangalore. Mangalore to Manipal is elaborately mentioned. Another thing is that the trainee is never told his local address in advance. the point of doing that is to ensure that he comes first to the IAESTE office and then, he/she is accompanied to the accommodation. Thus, we can keep a track about the intern's arrival and also the intern is welcomed at the office which everyone looks forward to when going to some other country. So we always provide them with the address of IAESTE office. Hope u guys knw tht :)

Dear Sarah,

Congratulations on being selected for an internship in India. I am
sure you will love every bit of our Country.

The closest airport to Manipal is Mangalore. The most convenient way
to reach Mangalore by air is via either Bangalore or Mumbai.
Since you mentioned that you have already booked tickets till Mumbai,
we would suggest that you book your connecting flight to Mangalore.
The following websites would come in handy :
www.makemytrip.com
www.yatra.com

There are other travel option like Train and Bus to reach Mangalore
but we would suggest you avoid them as by-air is the most convenient
and comfortable.

Manipal is about 65 kms from Mangalore . Therefore, a cab shall be
sent for you upon your arrival.
However, in case , due to some unforeseen circumstances a cab is
unable to come you will have to hire one from the Airport.
There are Pre-Paid taxis available at a counter just before the exit
and we would suggest you take one of those.
The fare generally would range from Rs750 - Rs850 for a non-AC small
car. Please make sure that they do not over-charge you.

After hailing the taxi, you should tell them to take you to MIT . We
are IAESTE shall be waiting to receive you!

Please make sure you are carrying the following things :
1. Your original documents that were used in your entire selection
procedure.
2. 10-15 passport size photographs.
3. Photocopies of Passport and visa.

In addition to all these, we would advise you to carry decent amount
of cash to sustain your through your journey and also the time till
you receive your first stipend.
Please do not forget to get adequate adequate vaccination done and
carry proper medicines, so as to avoid any kind of sickness, taking
place due to change of place or weather.

I hope I have been able to answer your queries.

Hoping to see you soon in Manipal!

Regards,

Jitesh Luthra
