XML Notepad is the result of a promise Chris Lovett made to a friend at Microsoft. The original XMLNotepad shipped in back in 1998, written by Murray Low in C++. Later on it fell behind in supportfor XML standards and, because we didn't have time to fix it, we pulled the downloader. But Murrayapparently did such a nice job that MSDN was inundated with requests to put the notepad back up, sothey asked for a replacement.

Did you try adding the notepad using the optional features in settings, apps & features, add?
if you cannot find using the optional features, you may have to use FOD (Features on-demand) package to reinstall/reload the notepad app.

From my iPhone application I'm outputting data from text to a file. When opened with windows notepad, the data is all on one line and where there should be a new line a block character is present (showing that it's an unrecognized character or something). When opened with windows wordpad, it displays just fine.
Would there be something wrong in my code? I'm simply output '\n' when i want a new line.

Microsoft recently (October 2018) announced that Notepad has been fixed in Windows 10 version 1809 so updating your system to windows 10 should resolve this issue (Windows versions before 1809 are impacted)

Florian (the creator) has an installer that will replace the normal Notepad.exe application that ships with Windows (admin/elevation required to install it, not needed to run it). After using the installer, Notepad2 will run instead, whenever 'notepad.exe' is run.

Sure, I no longer edit my AUTOEXEC.BAT file in it - mainly because it was a DOS loader that doesn't exist in Windows today. Still, I find Notepad important for quickly taking notes. If for some reason, I didn't launch Microsoft Word but want to jot down some thoughts or meeting notes, I like to pull up Notepad, which still launches more quickly than any other app on my Windows 11 system. Even if I have five or more Notepad windows open, the load on Windows 11 is minimal. That might not be the case with Word or another word processor app.

There's also a dark theme setting, which is like a throwback to the original DOS interface, and CRT-screen programming platforms. I still prefer the light mode, which I think better reflects the notepad theme. I mean, look at the app icon, it's a notepad, not a computer screen.

Notepad is a simpler app from a simpler time, which is probably why I'm so glad it's still part of the ever-changing Windows platform. Microsoft has done a lot in Windows 11 to refresh the aging OS, including shifting the start menu and taskbar to the middle. It's overhauled all the windows, app icons, and even File Manager.

Everything is the same, the only difference is I changed the 2 reg keys (via powershell) as it was outlined in the article you posted. A restart was not needed but you need to close all open processes of 'notepad.exe'

The most popular option is the Black Notepad app, whose functionality is almost similar to that of the default notepad in Windows. It is available for free in the Microsoft Store, so you can download and start using it in no time.

With Windows 11 notepad tabs, you can create, manage, and organize multiple files in a single Notepad window. As mentioned earlier, Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel can start using the multiple tabs within the Notepad app. If you are using a stable version of Windows 11, such as version 22H2, you must wait until Microsoft rolls out this feature.

On Windows 11 stable releases, for testing the multiple tabs on Notepad, there are many articles on internet that will show how to uninstall the existing notepad app from Windows 11 and install a updated Notepad app. I would not recommend doing that because your apps should be updated directly from Microsoft Store and not any other source.

Thank you so much, the registry solution was perfect for me. In the new notepad there is a slight lag when scrolling with the scroll wheel and it got to the point where it was starting to annoy me that such a lightweight program had any lag at all! Classic is SO much better. Classic for quick editing and Notepad++ for anything else. Thanks again!

I use Windows 11 notepad all day every day. It is adequate except for the terrible undo behavior, where you type and paste and hit undo and it undoes both typing and pasting. I use it literally for taking notes. I tried OneNote (which we have) but I tried to rename something and it crashed, and I said well maybe next year. I use Word all day too, which is also garbage. I touched some innocuous styling control yesterday and every Office application on the system crashed except IIRC Outlook. None of them lost

I use notepad all the time, even though I have access to editors with more features. A very simple text editor can be very useful. First, it's going to be much faster than other text editors. It's also not cluttered with sidebars, toolbars, rulers, and other stuff that takes up space on the screen. If you want something small and out-of-the way that you can use to, for example, copy some text that you can't easily copy (text in an image or video, a few values from a table, whatever) then having a small
