Hello!
I am checking a mullion with aluminium clips which are not continuous along the mullion's length. The clips' length is 70mm and they are positioned every 273mm (see attached screenshot).
I modelled a cross section with a clip and the same one without the clip. I got two values of U-factors (14.9 and 5.0).
In order to get the whole panel U-factor one of the things I have to do is to multiply U-factor of mullion with it's area (U x A).
So I multiply U-factor of mullion part with the clip (RED in the screenshot) with it's area
and U-factor of the mullion part without the clip (BLUE in the screenshot) with it's area.
Then I add them together to get total mullion (U x A) value.
Is it correct procedure?
Thanks.
Edin

Hello Edin,

It looks like you have modeled the non-continuous clip as a solid material. Refer to Section 8.8 in the Simulation Manual, which is available for free download here or here.

Following along in that section will help you determine if the clips need to be modeled and should get you a more realistic value.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Dan Sowell

Thanks for your answers.
I believe that procedure described in 8.8 of the Simulation Manual should give the same value as my procedure.
I will calculate it in that way, too and see if I'm correct.
Cheers!
