Hi Therm Team,

I downloaded Microsoft Visual V7.7.10 but it won't install. Always shows below error message. I am still on Windows 8.1. Are the versions incompatible? Can you please advise? Thank you.

I have not seen this issue before.

You should make sure you are installing it as Administrator.

I googled the error message, and it could have to do with anti-virus software

There are other suggestions on the many search results, one of which suggests that maybe the 8.1 version giving the error has not been updated. But not sure you want to go down that path -- the instructions were more for programmers and seemed very complicated, and could cause more trouble than fixing things.

So unfortunately, I don't really have a good suggestion for you about how to fix this problem.

Thank you Robin,

I installed it on a different machine with Windows 10 and there it installs itself. So, MS Visual C++ 2015-2019 doesn't seem to work with Windows 8.1.
I also installed Fortran IA-32 and THERM 7.7.10.
However, when opening the THERM application, it won't open but rather asks for an application to start it with. It wants an *.ini file that I can't find. I would have thought THERM is a standalone program launching itself?
Any ideas what I am missing here?

Thanks a lot,
Timo.

Yes, sometimes THERM can't find the INI (or the libraries).

The INI is located here, so you can browse to it when asked

C:\Users\Public\LBNL\Settings

If by chance it also asks for libraries, they are here

C:\Users\Public\LBNL\THERM7.7\lib

I'm not surprised that 8.1 is not supported anymore, but I understand the desire to stay with a tried and true OS.

Success, thank you Robin. Therm is running now.

I start going through some tutorials. Which one can you recommend?

Hi Robin,

Another question please:
I have done the tutorial "Creating a Steel Stud Wall in THERM" and followed all the steps, incl saving the project as 'Test.thm' file.

At the end it doesn't do the calculation (F9) - error message is "Trouble opening file: Program Files (x86)\lbnl\therm7.7\sim\Test.dat
I checked, there has been no "sim" folder created under that path, therefore my "Test.dat" can be found.

I guess I am missing something again?
Thanks for your help.

Timo
