I need to understand how would the U factor tags be assigned in a wall and window cross section
to determine overall U value
to determine Thermal bridging due to the detail

See Section 6.5.2(page 6-29) in the Therm manual, which can be downloaded here: NFRC THERM 6.3 / WINDOW 6.3 Simulation Manual
There is a full detailed explanation of how and where to assign U-factor tags to Boundary conditions.

I understand that . that section only addresses windows. When a cross section of window and wall is simulated in Therm , how are U factor tags assigned?

You can create new U-factor tags to assign to any part of a model, such as different areas of a wall, etc. You are not limited to just Frame and Edge that are the defaults for window modeling. There is a U-factor Names Library where you can make new tags and assign them as you want.

Thanks for your response. I 'm attaching the therm file , which I have been working on. I have assigned the same U factor to the window and wall, to get the U factor the assembly, would that be the right approach? The boundary conditions for each surface is different.
