Hello everybody.

In the new standard ISO 10077-2:2017 appears another calculation method possible for air cavities: Radiosity method.

Do you know if Therm has adapted the calculation model to this new algorithm? The results between the Conductivity method (traditional method) and the new one are quite different.

Thank you in advanced for your answer

Hi.

Pete Warm has written about this argument some times ago (2015) here: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/lbnl-therm/D75Byf2k_LY/-H1-J6GiAgAJ
I don't know if Therm developement has been or will be updated to ISO 1007-2:2017 new method, only Robin Mitchell can answer us.

All

I am checking with others here (LBNL), but as far as I know we have not updated THERM to use this new method.

If I get more information, I will post it here.

There are not many simulation software that will do the ray trace radiosity heat transfer simulation.

In most cases with curtain wall or systems with very few air gaps will not make much difference as most of the heat flow is through conduction.

For fenestration with many air gaps at thermal breaks there would be a notable difference.

Air gaps with an all metal surrounding will have small delta-T between walls due to high conduction. With cavities that have a dominant radation flow direction will also probably have little difference because the heat flow in one direction will likely govern.

Here is an example:

Technically the NFRC standards reference ISO15099 which has not adopted the radiosity method so doesn’t really affect US.

Europe mainly uses ISO10077.

Hi everybody,
Do you know if LBNL is planning to add the radiosity method calculation in the next THERM update?
Thanks!

Hi everybody!

Do you have any news on this topic? Does someone know if Therm is planning to adapt to the Radiosity method?

Thank you very much for the information
