Dear all,

Over time, we have heard you express interest in finding ways to ride in groups in an organized fashion. Longboat Key Bike Association (LBKBA) does not organize rides, but you may want to consider joining existing clubs which provide this possibility. One club is the Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club (SMBC.us). The reason I am mentioning it is that the SMBC puts safety first. By joining SMBC, your rides will be led by a certified ride leader who will take you on routes available in Sarasota and Manatee counties from a variety of starting points. SMBC strives to have fewer than 10 people on a ride. Additionally, except when stated, the rides are no-drop rides; no one is left behind! The ride leader will cover a number of safety tips before each ride, especially if you are new.  There are multiple speed groups and distances starting at 10 MPH all the way to above 20 MPH. The calendar of rides is here: https://www.huntcal.com/cal/view/SMBC/SMBC

Annual dues for an individual membership are $25 until March 31, 2026On April 1, 2026, the membership dues will be $35 for an individual and $50 for a family.

Additional membership benefits include a Ride with GPS membership, discounts at local bike shops, insurance coverage in case of an accident, and opportunities for social activities. The SMBC also invests time and funds into a number of community events.

If you are interested, you can join here:

NOTE :  If there are riders who are interested in riding from LBK, SMBC would consider organizing dedicated rides originating from LBK. If so, let me or Tom know by email.

Safe riding!            Emmanuel
