Afterwhat felt like an eternity of leaks and rumors, Rockstar finally caved and revealed the remastered collection of its PS2-era GTA games is real - and it's coming very soon. It offers us a chance to revisit Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas - something many of us haven't done for 20 years. We now also know how much better the games will look, and that updated features such as waypoints and GTA 5-style controls have been incorporated.

Now Rockstar has confirmed the trilogy exists, the rumor mill can finally stop turning. The focus can turn instead to the slew of details that have been revealed, including its pretty steep price tag. Since the games were available through various storefronts for far less right up until the remasters were officially revealed, that price point likely won't sit well with a lot of people. It sits well enough with me though - at least, well enough that I'm prepared to shell out for it - and even though I've played them all before, it feels like it's my chance to play them for the first time.

RELATED: The GTA Remastered Trilogy Is Your Chance To Fly The Dodo, The Worst Vehicle In Video Game HistoryWhile I would have been disappointed if the trilogy had been improved upon so little that the differences were negligible, most of my excitement revolves around being able to actually play the games as they were meant to be played, not as we all played them way back when.

Let me explain. First of all, I definitely don't condone people under the age of 18 playing GTA games. I also wouldn't let my own son do so, although at the age of two he hasn't shown much interest in wasting people on the streets of Los Santos just yet. However, I definitely played all of the games included in the trilogy before celebrating my 18th birthday. I know I wasn't the only one either, as I played the games alongside a number of friends the same age as me. I even let my little sister play them from time to time, but don't tell my mum that. To clarifiy; under 18s should not play GTA, and if my son or mum ever ask, I definitely definitely didn't.

Not only was I playing games that glamorized a life of crime at an age where I really shouldn't have been, but my immaturity meant I didn't even experience these games as intended. Take GTA 3, for example. My fondest memory of the first GTA game to ever come to PS2 is stealing the train and attempting to derail it as fast as I possibly could. Doing so over and over would entertain me for hours. Meanwhile, a virtual city containing a meticuously pieced-together story was awaiting me beyond that short stretch of railway.

By the time Vice City and then San Andreas arrived, I had matured a little. Plus, Vice City didn't have trains, so I needed to find something else to bide my time. The game's missions did that for a while, but eventually my immaturity took hold once again. Remember when you would try to play a GTA game as a law abiding citizen? Then get bored of doing that and punch a pedestrian just to feel virtually alive again before abandoning a mission and grabbing your list of almost illegible cheat codes? Yeah, that.

That quickly became the only reason to play the games. Give pedestriands weapons, make them riot, and watch the chaos ensue. Video Killed The Radio Star playing as I flew overhead in a car that should never have been granted the gift of flight. Every time I would leave Vice City for the real world, I would be careful not to save my game. If I did, the pedestrians would riot forever, and playing the game properly would be almost impossible. Years later I've realized that wouldn't have mattered. I had given up on the game's story long before and just didn't want to admit it.

Now the games are back, they look better than ever, and I'm going to be able to play all three of them back-to-back as a mature adult. No driving a train so fast that it derails. No loading San Andreas up with so many cheats that it becomes a video game version of The Purge. Just the missions, the characters, and the stories to play through and enjoy after all these years. Then, you know, after that I might indulge in what I used to love about these games as a kid. Magicking a tank out of thin air and wreaking havoc on a virtual city still sounds like a lot of fun, regardless of how old I am.

Some too-good-for-this-world angel has taken Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's intro and remastered it into a stylish, VHS-artifacted nostalgia bomb. And it's making me really conflicted. Every few seconds I have to remind myself that I actually am glad Rockstar is spending its limited resources on creating new games like Red Dead Redemption 2 instead of remaking old favorites like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Even though I used to spend hours just roaming around the mall and changing Tommy Vercetti's shirt. This is fine.

And no, it doesn't seem like Balazs Kalocsai, the video's creator, has any plans to work on Vice City Remastered as an actual fan game. Probably for the best. There would be way, way too many tears when Rockstar inevitably shuts it down.

I am happy to present my remastered version of the classic GTA Vice City, a mod that I have been working on for more than 2 years and that is now more complete than ever and available on ModDB.

The mod was worked on for two years and now it has become a very stable mod, personally tested and compiled in the best way to avoid unexpected crashes, because what's the point of having a beautiful mod if you can't enjoy it with crashes? The goal of this mod is to be very stable and playable.

Some features of this mod include:

- HD textures making a great effort to combine the textures of the VRTP project with the other mods.

- Vegetation taken and optimized from Vice Cry, everything was ported to the original game for greater stability.

- Many new features like Classic Axis, climbing, swimming, improved traffic and pedestrians. Plus many more features!

- Improved graphics with the new Reshade in conjunction with the SkyGFX mod, which achieves a beautiful combination between the two.

- Cars, weapons, radar and pedestrians retextured in HD.

- Multitude of maps added to expand the city, compiled from many different mods and released in a stable way.

- Neons from VCS and new 2dfx effects

- The mod has settings for low-resource PCs.

- And many more features!

- Since version 10.0 EAX Alchemy Fix is used so always make sure your settings are: Hardware Audio: Creative Labs EAX 3 after every new update (It is not necessary to review it every time, as long as it is configured the first time you can forget this section)., if you can't use this option your audio driver is not supported, so better use DSound3D Software Emulation 64ch and select the option: dsound3d software emulation 64ch.

- To know the new tricks and tips for the mods read the file "Tricks for these mods" in the "Tricks" folder.

- And most important "DO NOT USE OLD SAVEDATAS, ALWAYS START A NEW GAME AFTER EVERY NEW UPDATE!"

The original CheatDevice by Edison Carter was one of the first homebrews ever to run on firmwares 2.01, 2.5 and 2.6! It had a big fan base and lots of functionality added over time. Sadly the Liberty City version wasn't updated and thus missing out on fixes after Vice City Stories' release etc.

After over 15 years later, with this remastered version (remake actually) I re-created the whole project from ground up whenever I had some freetime. It is one plugin for both Stories Games now and compatible with all versions!! (excluding the Japanese releases)

When booting the game it will take a little longer to start as thats where all the magic happens. Once in-game, just like with the original, the menu can be opened and closed by pressing L + UP. And when saving your cheat preferences from the menu a config file will be created which automatically re-loads everything the next time you start the game. But there really is so much more so why don't you go take a look yourself..

Aside from my own discoveries re-creating everything, lots of functions that were previously only available via UserCheats were added as default ones. Due to all these new options, categories were added as well as the menu adjusted to scroll instead of using pages. These are the major and most noteworthy new functions:

As a child I loved playing with the CheatDevice and seeing this menu loaded via a simple savefile was like dark magic to me.. So I swore myself to understand and learn how to achieve this myself someday. Over the last years I worked on this little project whenever I had some freetime on & off. I am surely no expert in C or reverse engineering but this project helped and I learned a lot. I never intended to release this initially but why keep it for myself. I bet one or two nostalgic oldtimers might have some fun with this just like me.
