I do not like so much the internal Logic stuff and Pro R so far, so I'd better ask before purchasing more stuff.. I also have the blue Magoo and use that for big guitars but I really miss an expensive sounding Lexicon style reverb

There are tons of free convolving reverb IR (Impulse Response) files you can download online to use in any compatible reverb plugin you may have. And if you're already using Logic Pro, you don't need to get a third party plugin. Just import and use what you find online into Logic's "Space Designer" reverb. It's great.

I like the Eventide Space/H9/Blackhole as the algos can get pretty out there (including infinite/freeze), you get independent high and low cut and they take midi really well. But there are many other options, check the various threads on here.

Ventris by Source Audio, a dual DSP reverb that can get extremely darkly modulated dual reverbs.
I also have the Eventide H9 max and previously the BigSky. Both are totally capable of going dark for several nuclear winters, but the Ventris goes into a dark universe.

For lower budget hardware, I like the plate reverb in Boss products. In my Boss Katana amp, I was surprised to find I like the Plate the best, more than Hall which is supposed to be the bigger reverb. I prefer how Plate sounds with longer times than Hall.

I love the sound of this reverb. So realistic. For long reverbs it is astonishing, lush and warm, now I just need to make sure not to abuse it otherwise my mixes are going to sound like they've been done under the sea!

I watched the video for this and I was blown away. As always, I did the demo first to try it for myself and make sure it was something I could benefit from. There are tons of options on here and quite honestly I only listened to maybe 2 presets. The best suggestion is to set all of the controls at zero and start clicking buttons and adjusting sliders. While there are tons of options and endless ways to use it you will quickly realize how practical it is in usage and theory. I have the EMT reverb bundle and suddenly I rarely use them!

Vocalists I have recorded recently love to hear this reverb back through the headphones so now it has to be there all the time. For a simple recording of a singer with acoustic guitar accompaniment I used a single instance subtly applied on the master buss and it's all that was needed to give the finished track the right ambience. Haven't wanted to use any other reverb since I got this one.

And it works just like the real thing! I know, 'cause I have now used both. And together with my Apollo, this reverb is going to be stored in my ProTools presets.

Thank you UA for putting so much effort in making your fantastic plugins!

I've wanted a different reverb flavor for things other than natural modeled acoustic spaces, and you hit a grand slam with this one. I pulled up a few presets and was immediately in Peter Gabriel So land. That really expansive reverb with the modulation is absolutely beautiful. That being said I've used this on a few mixes with a shorter more natural tail and it has worked great. I have fond memories of the original and you guys have done an absolute great job on this one!

From the first moment I added it onto a track, I was in love! It is sooo musical sounding and being able to adjust what you can, makes it for me, OUTSTANDING. Very versatile and warm. I haven't used every reverb plugin on the market but from the ones I've used, by far the best sound.

1st time I tried it. Suddenly felt like the old days. Recording & mixing with the open reel, huge mixing desk & the lexicon controller in front of me. The most I like like about the Lexicon plugin is where you can control the noise. So I can get that big lexicon reverb sound without the headache of noise. Good job to the UA team for bringing it back to life!

Ok I am getting boring, there is no UAD plugin I dislike. The lexicon reverbs always been my favourite. Afcourse no way I can purchase the real machine, but this plugin, just makes me wet my pants. Rich full reverbs..... try it, listen to the demo, these give a pretty good impression how the plugin sounds.

I m adept of analog spring reverb cose i m a roots reaggea producer .i had always very bad feelings with digitals reverb always puting something wrong on my roots mixs.but since i discovered this plug i don t have the same opignon.i guess it because i never earned a real digital reveb.
This verb have a really warmy sound, and is very versatile due to the hight numbers off parameters .
But i feels it really on vocals that she put it s warmth to higher level.

After using this reverb on many mixes with wondeful results, I love It. It is happy very present in the mix and able to whisper gentle reverb into the mix. I sounds great and so easy to place. It is cable of building a wonderful sence around your trracks. After you geet a chance to truley use this Reverb, you'll dig it.

We must also mention the TAL-Reverb-III, another free plate reverb plugin that strips the controls down further to a series of sliders, and the TAL-Reverb-4 which is a free standalone version of the reverb section from the TAL-Sampler plugin. Both of these are of course worth checking out, but to our mind the TAL-Reverb-II strikes the best balance of sound and control out of the bunch. More info and download here.

Voxengo OldSkoolVerb delivers a nice classic stereo reverb sound, and is kept continually updated as a free plugin staple. The latest version comes in 5 colour variants too, so if you get tired of looking at the same GUIs all the time, you can shade your reverb plugin instances for mood or colour-code for different instruments in a mix project. Recommended.

The established industry standard convolution reverb plugin. Convolution reverb uses Impulse Response (IR) files that contain the recorded reverberation characteristics of any space, from the inside of an oil drum to the Sydney Opera House, and applies those characteristics to the source material. A large part of what makes Altiverb so special is the attention to detail and the time and trouble taken by the Audio Ease team to put together the vast Altiverb IR library. Users also get access to new Impulse Responses as they are made available each month on the Audio Ease website.

There are plenty of great options now for experimenting with convolution reverb and Impulse Response files, including plugins from the standard libraries of many of the major DAWs. Special mention here must go to Logic Pro Space Designer, FL Studio Convolver, Convolution Reverb Pro in Ableton Live and Reaper Reaverb.

iZotope / Exponential Audio R4 is a pristine reverb that can do it all, a true next-gen hybrid. From lush smooth tails that bring to mind the favourite hardware reverb units of old, to sonic mangling with the Warp and Freeze controls for spectacularly impossible reflection effects, R4 covers every base. And now that Exponential has been acquired by iZotope, expect some next-level developments in this space soon too.

With Brainworx bx_rooMS, you get mid-side processing built into a high-quality reverb plugin. For sound design, plus detailed mixing and mastering duties, you may find the depth of control you get from bx_rooMS to be exactly what you need.

For a great mix of gritty ambience and sonic angling potential, take a good look at the range of reverb processors in Eventides lineup. UltraReverb has become one of my absolute go-to personal favourite reverb plugins over the last 18 months or so, as it pairs its reverb with delay, EQ and compression all within the same nicely-designed GUI, providing plenty of on-the-fly inspiration for everything from short percussion ambience to full on compressed-reversed warping weirdness (in part, courtesy of Richard Devine and Sasha co-producer Charlie May who both provided a bunch of the excellent presets, amongst many others).

Waves IR1 is a convolution reverb, with some great presets that are based on many famous venues and spaces from around the world. So if you want to hear what your music would sound like in the Sydney Opera House or at legendary NY punk rock club CBGBs, this is the reverb for you.

Exponential Audio PhoenixVerb is a newer reverb plugin from the creator of none other than the Lexicon PCM Native Bundle, so is certainly worth checking out. For simple, low-CPU tasks, PSP EasyVerb is made for the job.

LiquidSonics also teamed up with Slate Digital to offer the VerbSuite Classics Digital Reverb Collection plugin, which fits well into the Slate range if you already use their plugins. VerbSuite Classics features 8 different models of favourite hardware reverb units, providing a potential one-stop shop for mixing duties.

Waves Abbey Road Plates is also a long-time favourite character reverb of ours, while Valhalla DSP ValhallaPlate is another classy option, and a great complement to their other reverb plugins.

Thank you for a great article and giving some great insights to a new producer. I would be interested in your opinion on the ReLab that Neil Wright mentioned as it is a lot cheaper than the Lexicon.
All the best
Tim

the best reverb ever has been Wizooverb W2, by far, but because of that, M-audio bought it and made it secretly the new pro tools native reverb, shhh dont tell anyone.
So if you turn to have it forget about looking somewhere else, use it and listen.
