Hi All!
Sorry, I have just been crazily busy, but also trying to wind up stuff so I could devote time to our class. But I am really happy to see that people are already chomping at the bit (as am I) and have not waited for the team leader to show up. J
As far as this exercise goes, I am a little conflicted. While I want you to have full information, I don’t want to bias you. The reason I say this is because all the categories under the Business Model Canvas are quite clear to me because I have been chewing on this for many years and have worked in the model for at least a year or so. So, I need people to take a fresh look at the model and see what they think. However, I am happy to provide any and all information as needed, because I don’t want you to be in the dark.
So, let me know what information you need. Below is a list of the presentations and documents I have – choose which ones you want.
1. 1-page brief plus 2-page FAQ (mainly targeted at investors) – I think I may have sent this to some of you already.
2. Story based illustration of the business model
3. Video (again, I think you all have seen it)
4. Customer Brochure 1
5. Customer Brochure 2
6. Customer Presentation – PowerPoint
7. Investor Presentation – PowerPoint
Just choose and I will start sending it. I am thinking it will most likely be in the order above, but I leave that to you.
Also, I am attaching a template (xlsx) that everyone can use (or you can create your own) for the Business Model Canvas.
Thanx & Regards,
Aniruddha (“Anil”) Gupte

Key partnerships
INTEGRATION PARTNERSHIPS - L3 integration in connected environments to capture broader audience
- Microsoft (Windows8 app & Xbox destination)
- Smart TV API
- Partnership with streaming platforms to add an encrypted download option to their existing premium offering (i.e. Vimeo)
PROMOTION PARTNERSHIPS - Relevant environments to increase awereness among content creators
- Film schools
- Independent associations & groups 'lobbying' against traditional distribution networks
- Film festivals (e.g.Tropfest)
DATA PARTNERSHIPS - leverage location based data collected and centre of interest
- Experian (aus) and other relevant bid data specialists
- VC?? Might be included as part of a broader deal with investment VC?
Customer segments
--> I have a different view on segmentation, it includes elements from above but has a larger scope:
1- Content creators: film & art practioners//field specialists
2 - viewers: ethical entertainment seekers already using streaming or legal download platforms// indie, cultural content seekers// older skewed audience, less technically savvy who need a one-stop-shop solution
3 - advertisers: direct advertisers seeking for immersive environments with fully captive audience (traditional cinema advertisers) // SMEs looking geotargeted, cost effective solutions (similar to FB advertisers) // Content creators already on L3 willing to promote their content and increase their reach
Revenue streams
- Content creators contribution
- Viewer paid options
- Direct advertisers revenue
- Affiliate programs? Not sure it exist for file download though
Just posted a few things myself, hope that tomorrow our business model canvas can be full of ideias!

Pawat/Alice:
Excellent! I think you have zeroed in on the core. Pawat’s list is comprehensive and pretty much covers everything except for one that I think may be important. For want of a better name I call this category “How-To Videos” and includes contents like “How to play the guitar”, “How to improve your Golf game”, “How to cook Fried Green Tomatoes” and so on.
Now I have something important to share. I think Alice has already stumbled on this, but let me put it out there and I want your inputs. I have been struggling with this for a while. Here goes:
There is a simple rule which usually works in this case – “The customer is the one who pays you money”. By that token, our real customers are Content-Viewers, not Content-Owners. We are using Content-Owners as a source (Vendors) of Content which we then repackage and then ease into the marketplace. This is part of why I think we are struggling and perhaps need to pivot. This is why I was not trying to give you too much information – I feared that would bias you into thinking like I have. But Alice, I think you gave me the opening, because you are thinking differently.
Your thoughts?

It’s OK Pawat, you didn’t forget. J All my material is geared toward Content-Owners, and I have treated them as our Customers. In reality (and this is where the discussion is important), our focus should change so that Content-Viewers are the customers.

Friends!
I would like to turn this ship around and point in a different directions. Let me come back to my earlier post – our customers are viewers, not owners/creators of content! This is a discussion I have had offline with many people and I think I am right, but feel free to disagree.
Anyway, based on this assumption, I have created a whole different BMC – see attached.

Alice:
Yes, but that 25% is coming from viewers not owners! When someone pays $1 to rent a movie, we make $1 – we choose to give $0.75 to the content-owner through a prior arrangement, along with some to the payment gateway and some to the government as taxes.
The analogy that I have been using is this. If Proctor & Gamble makes a bar of soap or a diaper and I buy either of these in Walmart, then I am Walmart’s customer. Walmart may have bought it from P&G, but often, they (and most retailers today who have the clout) don’t pay till it is sold, and even return unsold inventory to the manufacturer’s.
Everyone: Please bear with me on this – I have spent months thinking this through, and I am convinced that we have been facing in the wrong direction. I have talked to many, many content-owners and they all love the platform (what’s not to like!) and want to get on it, but they always ask – so how many viewers can I expect?
In fact, I have modified the business canvas because I left out the content-owner. Please use this one – ignore the previous one.
Thanx & Regards,
Aniruddha (“Anil”) Gupte

Thanx Pawat! I will submit the assignment sometime in the next 10-12 hours (we are currently 14 hours from the deadline) Any last minute thoughts or changes, please let me know.
Meanwhile, we should start looking at the next assignment – the marketing page. We have a viewer oriented page already (actually a site), but again I am not sure if I should bias you by showing it to you. I am willing to spend the money to try multiple marketing campaigns. Let me know if you want to do Adwords/Facebook/whatever…
Alice – you are the marketing expert, looking for some great inputs from you.
