ThanksLongHiker ...I did try that and was hoping it would be my solution but I can't seem to get the app on laptop to recognise my backed up smart switch folder on the SD, it doesn't let me select it even through manual select on the laptop smart switch app. Unless you know of something I'm doing wrong or a way to get it to recognise?

I tried backing up 3 pics from my new phone via smart switch on laptop to see where they saved so I could potentially move the folder from the SD card but without much luck. They seem to be different file types?

i have a problem when i setup a new samsung device. i have approved the app "samsung smart switch" in the managed google play account - and send it also back to google. the problem is - there is still a error message when i will start the "samsung smart switch" app - it tells me, that a compliance error - but i dont know how can fix it. there was a discussion 10 months ago - but this doesnt work for me - still the problem.

First, make sure the Smart Switch app is installed on both phones, and plug them into their chargers. When you're ready, place the phones within 4 inches of each other. Launch Smart Switch on both phones. Tap Send data on the old phone, tap Receive data on the new phone, and then tap Wireless on both phones.

When adwcleaner finds preinstalled software (in my case samsung smartswitch), i cant skip the quarantine window. It only allows my to check the preinstalled software and do a quarantine. But I dont want to remove this software so I can only go back to the main screen. When I dont select anything nothing happens when I click quaratine. There should maybe be a skip button or something, or a setting wich lets you choose to check for preinstalled software or not.

Recently I was trying to set up an Android device to run some testing on and I just happened to pick a Samsung this time around. I needed some sample data on it but I didn't have a lot of time to generate information. Luckily, Android has a way you can restore information from one device to another, even if that device isn't an Android.

If you happen to be transferring over to a Google Pixel phone, Android will allow you to use the USB-C adapter to connect a USB-A to Lightning cable that has an iOS device running on the other side. I thought this was a pretty slick process and will likely be checking into it more in time to see what happens on the Pixel side.

Since Samsung is one of the most popular device manufacturers it shouldn't surprise anyone that they are copying this functionality on their device line. In order to do this, Samsung has the user download the Samsung Smart Switch application which can also be found on the Google Play store. (Link) Samsung isn't alone on this, with OnePlus, LG, and 3rd party groups using this same functionality, but Samsung is the one we'll focus on today.

Samsung allowed me to select quite a bit of information including SMS/MMS, Contacts, Photos/Videos, and even Application data. So after this process, what is left behind by the Smart Switch application that could be relevant to our investigations?

The application uses the bundleID of com.sec.android.easyMover. Looking for that in the file system, there weren't many databases that appeared there at first. Within the shared_prefs folder, there was a "smartswitch_prefs.xml" file that had some great information in it including:

I backed up my Galaxy phone using smart switch. I backed it up to my local drive. I would like to view a list of all of the phone's files that were backed up. I would prefer to do this just using Windows or Linux without needing to connect a phone. Is there a manifest file with this information?

During our tests, we had no trouble transferring data from Android to Android and from iOS to Android. The main issue is that the speed of the transfer depends on the method you use. If possible, use a USB-C cable for the fastest transfer. If you have to transfer wirelessly, it will take a bit longer. However, the amount of data you are transferring is the biggest factor in how long the process will take. The more data you have, the longer it will take. Pretty straightforward, right?
