Good Morning,
There had been utility work happening on 44th St. for much of spring/summer. I often called/emailed many of you with pictures of trees being impacted by the work. The work seems to have stopped but it has left very poor conditions on the street including:
1 block of 44th St. from Summit St. to Davison
-Visible trunk damage to 2 of the new trees we planted, during work utility plates and other materials were leaned against the trees
-tree pit sizes changed after utility work, some shorted (no longer 30sqft), some lengthened
-excessive paving/damaging of existing curbs to the point where there is zero clearance between the street and the tree pit. prior to construction there was clearance. These trees will be inundated with road salt/melt this winter.
-monolithic curbs installed at many of the properties. These new monolithic curb will prevent most of the street from ever getting street trees. We have been inventorying upper lawrenceville for street tree planting locations and the majority of properties are not eligible due to new monolithic curbs installed by recent utility work.
Please see attached pictures.
Has the utility company been fined for the tree damage? Is there an inspection process by the City to make sure that the street is in better condition?
