Lawrence Humane Society Update
It's No April Fool's Joke. Make Sure Your Pet is Microchipped!
About the size of a large grain of rice, pet microchips use radio waves to send data to a hand-held scanner at an animal shelter, veterinarian's office or hospital. In addition to returning an animal to its family, microchips help the shelter, too. If we can quickly return a lost pet to its owner, it means we have fewer animals to care for, and stress from the shelter environment is minimized for your loved one.
Tomorrow, the Lawrence Humane Society is offering a special microchip promotion ($15 per pet) both at the shelter (1805 E. 19th, Lawrence) and at Petco (3115 Iowa, Lawrence). If your dogs or cats have not been chipped, now is the time to do so. Please remember, our animals can't tell anyone where they live. Should they become lost and lose their collars or tags, how can we help them find their homes? We owe it to our "best friends" to help keep them safe. If your animals are already microchipped, please talk to your friends and neighbors about the advantages of a microchip. Let's do everything we can to make sure lost pets can always go home again.
