Dear colleagues,
We invite you to our next webinar on Wednesday, September 10, 15:00 UTC. Our guest will be Pellegrino Piantadosi (NYUAD, UAE), who will talk about "Rediscovering the Standard Model with AI". The abstract can be found below.
Abstract:In this talk, I will explore whether artificial intelligence can
autonomously rediscover known structures of the Standard Model of
particle physics using only experimental data and without theoretical
input. By applying unsupervised machine learning techniques, such as
dimensionality reduction and clustering, to intrinsic particle
properties and decay modes, I will show how key features of particle
physics emerge from the data itself. These include the relative strength
of interactions, the distinction between baryons and mesons, conserved
quantum numbers like baryon number, strangeness, and charm, as well as
isospin structure and the Eightfold Way multiplets. Clustering methods
reveal groupings aligned with interaction types and flavor symmetries,
and I will also highlight signatures of Regge trajectories in baryon
excitations. These results suggest a promising direction for data-driven
discovery in fundamental physics, where machine learning reveals deep
physical structures without prior theoretical assumptions.
