Hello all,

I am a PhD candidate at Stony Brook University. I work on race and gender in New York City's stagecraft union. I am hoping to present:
A paper on the state-mandated integration of the mostly white Local 1 and the mostly black and latnio Local 1A in 1955, ten years after the state had passed a non-discrimination law.
or, a paper on the ways that men use their labor unions to reproduce society through father/son legacy membership and other exclusionary practices.

If these options are interesting to you, please get in touch with me at caroline...@gmail.com

Thank you,

Caroline Propersi-Grossman

Hi all,

This panel has four members and is looking for a fifth. The papers in the panel include work on:

State-mandated integration of AFL craft unions in 1955.
Francophone anarchist communities in Pennsylvania’s coal fields.
Race and deindustrialization in midcentury Brooklyn.
Craft severance movement in the AFL.

An ideal fit would be a paper about gender or race at an institutional level.

Thanks,
Caroline
