Hi all, we have two panelists.  One presenting on African American women, EEOC grievances and retail in the 1950-1960s.  Another presenting on Puerto Rican needleworkers in NYC and northeast ILGWU in 1950s-1970s.
If you are interested and available, please let us know.

We have found a chair/commentator for the panel.  We are still seeking a third panelist who studies working women and activism in the postwar U.S.--we do define the U.S. broadly to include colonies and military bases outside the bordered nation-state.

I am wondering if my paper would qualify for your panel. I hope so.

My paper focuses on the fight by Communications Workers of America (CWA) majority female bargaining units against the outsourcing and offshoring of unionized call center work in the telecom industry beginning in the 1990s. The paper places the outsourcing of call center work in the context of the neoliberal political economy of the late 20th century and analyzes the challenges women-led CWA bargaining units faced as they organized to preserve good jobs and quality service. The paper will begin with two CWA campaigns against call center outsourcing at AT&T and Bell Atlantic in the late 1990s, and then discuss how the national union developed a strategy of global solidarity with Filipino call center workers during the 2015 CWA strike and Dominican call center workers today.

I am completing my PhD dissertation at the University of Maryland. I am also Research Director at the Communications Workers of America.

In my post asking if my paper on call center workers' fighting outsourcing, I forgot to give you my name: Debbie Goldman

Hi Aimee,

I'm interested in submitting with your panel if you still need another presenter! My paper is on racing/gendering the union in postwar America, specifically on the development of intersectional organizing tactics among domestic workers in 1970s Atlanta. Happy to send the abstract if you are interested.

Please feel free to reach me at shann...@gmail.com or 301.675.8099.

Thanks,
Shannon
