Happy New Year everybody!

The 24th of January to the 13th of May 2010 will probably be one of the most exciting and demanding periods of your life: there is school, LAW WEEK, Guild and Law Society elections, more EXAMS again and so much more!

For some of you it is your first final semester here at Cave Hill, for others it is your last! Whichever category you are in, congratulations for making it this far!

There are some issues that I need to address with you before the semester commences; I hope I have touched everybody’s concerns.

Registration:

Registration for all Law Students will be held on January 17th 2011, this process usually commences at 9 am.

LAW WEEK

There is nothing more important this semester than Law Week.

We have won the Guild of Student’s BEST WEEK title for many consecutive years now and this year will be NO DIFFERENT!

Please PAY KEEN ATTENTION to the notices concerning Law Week, study the survival guide you will receive shortly, get your HOUSE SPIRIT high, and just prepare to participate in the most awesome week of the year.

We need volunteers and so if you are interested in helping out – respond and let us know!

FACULTY BOARD MEETING

It is imperative that you respond to the messages from your class representatives with all your concerns and recommendations for me to present at the upcoming Faculty Board Meeting on Friday January 14th.

PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL ISSUES ESCALATE.

I will update you on the relevant happenings of the meeting as soon as possible.

GRADES

Examiners Meeting is on the 11th of January and so grades should be available for release shortly thereafter. This is in no way an official word from the University but grades should be available by the weekend.

LAW SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

Please remember applications are due January 31.

ALL applications are to be returned to the Faculty Office preferably by the 28th allowing the office to send the applications to the respective schools on time.

If anything is unclear please contact the office at (246) 417 – 4000.

3rd YEAR COURSES

Below are the list of courses that We have been considered the issue of 3rd year course offerings and have decided that the most indispensible options are:

1.      Poverty Law II

2.      Family Law II

3.      Specialized Principles in Private International Law II

4.      Alternative Dispute Resolution

5.      Corporate Management

6.      Revenue Law

7.      European Union Law

8.      Caribbean Integration Law

9.      Competition Law

10.  Discrimination in Employment Law

11.  International Trade Law

12.  Independent Research Paper

 -          Corporate Finance will not be offered this semester.  Dr. E. Ventose has proposed to concentrate fully on teaching and tutoring Administrative Law; as a result he and one other tutor will take all the tutorials for that course to ensure the 2nd year class has an improvement in their performances.

o   The Law Society awaits the findings of the committee set up by the Faculty Board to examine the extremely poor scores of the 2010 Administrative Law class; in the mean time, we are not opposed to this venture that the lecturer believes will improve the chances of the new class.

-          Industrial Relations Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution are still tentative but representation will be made at the Faculty Board Meeting on the 14th concerning them.
