Dear friends,

Please note taht the meeting of the Initiative Committee that shall take place on 29 September from 9:00AM to 11:00PM at the ETUC (5th floor) – the day after our prep conference of Sept 28th, and before the Euro Manif

Please find in the attachment some documents for THE MEMBER ORGANISATIONS OF THE INITIATIVE COMMITTEE
-       Reminder: the report of the decisions made on 26 May (sent already)
-       A Draft document defining the framework for the discussion that we put forward to the other organizations (based on the previous meetings).
-       Several discussion papers for the meeting of 28 September, based on the decisions of our Committee of 26 May.
o       Analyzing the crisis, weak points and strong points of the social movement
o       Lists of questions in order to prepare the debates about the 4 topics to be discussed  (follows)
o       An additional note on the issue of Foreign Trade, proposed for the discussion by our friends of the S2B Network.
-       Two proposals for reaction please :
o       Table of contact persons : to be filled by each organization
o       Timetable sept 2010 – march 2011

In a second mail (following by the end of the week) you’ll receive documents to be spread TO THE MEMBER ORGANISATIONS AND FOR DISSEMINATION TO SISTER ORGANISATIONS

-       First invitation to book the date of 10 and 11 March for the first Social Spring Conference
-       Invitation to the preparatory conference of 28 September

In order not to archive these documents, you should be able to find all of them (and also the previous ones) on the website  www.jointsocialconference.eu  - to be launched by the first days of September.

Important note

The aim of the proposed documents is to develop further the themes of our work, defined during the meeting of 26 May 2010. These documents are based on the outcomes of the previous meetings. They put forward some questions and some proposals.
These documents could be used as the starting point of the discussions that could be carried out by the participant organizations at the internal level in order to prepare the meeting of 28 September.
Each organization is invited to send back as soon as possible its suggestions and criticisms and to take a stance regarding the different notes by 28 September.


Please send us your reactions as soon as possible about these documents.

CAREFUL: 3 important remarks

1.      We have not received many definite registrations for the preparatory conference of 28 September. We have to plan for the meeting rooms, hire the interpreters etc. Therefore it is indispensable for people who want to book a ROOM at the Thon hotel to send us their registration. May we therefore kindly request you to send us your registration and also ask the colleagues that you invite for the 28 September to send us their registration as well.

2.      On 26 May I had pointed out that we were not going to have major expenses in 2010 (since we have not foreseen a “large-format” conference). Yet we have some expenses for the Intermediary Conference: could you please check by 29 September whether your organization can take care of a budget amounting to some one third of the funds provided in 2009 (i.e. between 100 to 400 Euros). Thanks 

3.      The major challenge for our process remains, I believe, the difficulty within each organization to dedicate some time to the preparation and follow up of the different issues that we decide to study and around which we would like to get mobilized: it seems to me that in each organization we should be able to find means and time in order to increase the investment in between the meetings, and to be able to go beyond the “experimental” phase that we went through in 2009.
